Chapter 66: Revolt

The Chivalric Order of Radiant Knight. In a branch stationed in the border town.

Lan Yu sat on a long silk bench, clothed in a robe inlaid with flower rings stitched out of gold thread at its edges. ‘Tut-Tut’. With slightly shut eyelids, his fingers were orderly knocking against the table.’

The graceful, luxurious, warm, and cozy section head office had never given him a sense of security. A series of uneasy ripples faintly rose from his heart.

“Knock, knock, knock…” As a series of faint, orderly knocking sounds arrived, Lan Yu opened his eyes.

“Enter.”

“Click.”  Together with the sound of the swiveling door handle, a knight wearing spiked plate armor strode into the room.  He saluted Lan Yu after he had cautiously closed the door.

“Gorm, did you come here to give an account of the situation?” Lan Yu asked after he confirmed that the doors were firmly closed.

“No, there are only some suggestions regarding some personal matters that your subordinate wishes to advise your excellency about.” Gorm respectfully said. The robes he was wearing were inlaid with rings of a golden flower. It represented the symbol of a golden knight.

The two belonged to the hierarchy of golden knights. However, if they were to base it on their appointments, Lan Yu, who belonged to the administration role, was higher ranking than Gorm. This was really rare in the Chivalric Order of Radiant Knight, where martial prowess is heavily valued over literacy.

“Oh? What sort of personal matters are you referring to? I am all ears.” Not only was Lan Yu not angry after hearing Gorm’s seemingly nitpicky response, but a trace of a smile had also emerged at the corner of his mouth.

Upon hearing what Lan Yu said, Gorm walked up a few steps towards the front of the office desk and bent his body downwards.

“My lord, this is extremely joyous news. The troll foot soldiers had not managed to break through the city gate thus far.”

“…Oh? I am really curious. Have the trolls grown weak? Or has this section head underestimated those groups of cannon fodder?” Lan Yu raised his eyebrows. This seemingly casual response had faintly carried traces of displeasure in it.

“Neither’s the case. My lord…The dark knights have mobilized.”

“Bang!” As if venting his anger, he hammered the mahogany desk so hard that a muffled bang resounded.

“Those damnable heretics, why did they appear here?! They’re always ruining my party…” Lan Yu forcefully endured the fury burning inside him and massaged his sore temples.

“What do we do now, my lord? Do we still continue with the operation?” Gorm asked.

“Carry on? Forget it. Can we carry on at this stage with how things have progressed? Those bunch of heretics had already messed it up a long time ago!” Lan Yu’s complexion was so gloomy that it resembled a sea of clouds before a thunderstorm.

“They even leave such a terrible mess in their wake. The two of us will be finished if we don’t clean up after them thoroughly!”

“Then, my lord. What should we do next?”

“…Fine. If they’re unkind, then don’t blame me for being unrighteous. Gorm, an opportunity for you to be promoted to a temple knight has arrived. It will be up to you whether or not you choose to grasp it.” Lan Yu stood up and said to Gorm in a prudent manner.

“Of course! I will not hesitate to go through fire and hell for your distinguished self!” With great joy in his heart, Gorm knelt on one knee and said in a respectful manner.

“Mhm.” Lan Yu nodded his head in satisfaction.

“Currently a great enemy is facing us and obstructing the frontline knights. Their negligence had caused this section head to receive the news late and made us lose any favorable opportunities in battle. With my title as the Section Head of the Chivalric Order of Radiant Knights, I henceforth command you to lead the knights over and support the front lines. Kill every single one of the demons and heretic there. Remember, every single one of them.”

Lan Yu had made sure to heavily emphasize the words ‘every single one of them’ in his speech.

“Understood!”Gorm respectfully saluted. After returning a meaningful glance that suggested he knew what to do, he walked out of the room.

“Clatter…”

“What’s the matter? Why is there such a ruckus here??” Lan Yu slightly frowned.

“Esteemed Section Head, a knight that is stationed in the East City Wall has come over requesting for assistance. Do you want to receive him?” A knight reported as he entered the room.

“Hmm? Just in time. Let him in.” The corners of Lan Yu’s mouth traced an unnoticeable arc.

“Yes.” The reporting knight walked out of the room. What entered was a frontline knight clad head to toe in ramshackle chainmail covered in bloodstains.

“Esteemed Section Head! The trolls’ offensive is overwhelming! Our comrades on the field are either injured and dead, and the frontline army is about to be…”

“Bang!” Before the frontline knight could lament his situations, Lan Yu slammed the wooden desk and stood up with a face full of fury.

“Why are all of you so slow to report that the trolls are at the city walls!? Do you know how many civilians have been rendered homeless thanks to your desertion? You have delayed and made us miss favorable battle opportunities. Do the lot of you think you can bear that action with impunity!?” Lan Yu’s finger trembled as it pointed at the frontline knight that was kneeling on the floor.

“Ah??” It took three seconds for the frontline knight to react when faced with the indignant renouncement of Lan Yu.

“Please wait a moment, Esteemed Section Head! Didn’t we already dispatch a knight to make a report the very first moment the situation happened? But the branch has said that it requires instructions for them to send out troops and continuously insist that we defend to our deaths…”

“You, frontline knights are truly gutsy! Every one of you gets paid without doing any work, and you still want to shift the blame to me?? Come, men! Drag this sinner down to the prison!”

“?? Section head, you??” The frontline knight was completely oblivious as to what was happening. Two knights had forcefully rushed in, respectively held onto the arm of the frontline knight and dragged him outside.

“W-Wait a moment! This lowly self has no objection if the esteemed section head wishes to punish him! He just wishes that the section head could quickly dispatch the troops…Our brothers are almost at their limits…” The frontline knight pleaded.

“Haha. Of course, I will dispatch the troops. I am deeply concerned with the affairs of our country and our people! Do you think I will allow the trolls to barge in and harm our people?? All of you will enter a jail cell and properly reflect on your actions! When the time comes, I will make you pay the appropriate price for your transgressions!” Lan Yi’s words were filled with righteousness as he spoke in a bitter and hateful manner.

…………

“Your royal highness? You…” The figure in her bosom was incessantly shivering like a small kitten.

“Uuu…” Bai Ji felt a burst of bone-chilling coldness extending from the sole of her feet. She had seemingly lost control of her body.

“How about you drink Lin’s blood first…”

Before Lin could even finish her words, Bai Ji opened her scarlet eyes. Struggling and breaking away from Lin’s body with a moan, she unfolded her demon wings and took toward the night sky.

“…Your royal highness?” Concern was written all over Lin’s face as she saw Bai Ji flying further and further into the air.

“Destructive Throw!” She could only see Huo Lei picking up a troll foot soldier and throwing it down the city wall.

“Go to hell!” The troll foot soldier behind Huo Lei immediately made use of this opening.

“Uncle Huo Lei, be careful!” Ke’er, who was idling with Lil’ Sha at a corner, shouted.

【Watcher’s Fury】

An imposing hammer fell down from the skies and split the troll who was planning to surprise attack Huo Lei into half.

“My arrival isn’t too late, I hope?” Wearing a set of tattered knight gown, Ji Bai unhurriedly sheathed his sword under everyone’s astonished gaze.
