Chapter 65: Speeding along

“Captain… What is this situation?? Didn’t these two groups come to encircle us? Why are they fighting against each other?” The subordinate knights expressed to their superior that their poor brainpower and imagination had severely limited their train of thought.

“…It’s possible that this batch of demons hiding within the city are not the trolls’ accomplices? Maybe they want to dispose of this group of intruders first before dealing with us small fries.”  The knight captain, who was holding onto the city wall and supporting himself, stroked his chin. He arrived at this conclusion and was very confident that this was indeed the case.

Compared to the ignorant frontline knights, the trolls were even more clueless than they were. They didn’t know why they were being attacked right now.

Why did demons appear and assist a human city?  This question was as complicated as the philosophic theory of the universe, causing the dim-witted trolls to simply abandon any attempts to ponder about the matter.

“Lil Li! Seal off the city walls!” The red-haired demon girl sliced the neck of a troll foot soldier while shouting towards her rear.

Within the warzone where the moon knights were engaged in battle, the ears of a girl twitched as she busily licked a lollipop in her mouth. While her beautiful eyes were fixated on the handheld PSP machine in her palm, her slim and slender fingers were rapidly tapping on the controls. Following an intermission, she raised and quickly slashed the air. Golden-bright and dazzling silk-like ripples radiated out from her fingertip and formed a strange-looking rune.

【Miracle: Recovery】

A shining light instantly enveloped the East City Wall as if they were painted with golden paint. All of the damaged areas were then replaced with golden-light walls.

“What is hell is that?” Below it, the trolls that were hammering the castle walls  dazedly look at the eye-blindingly golden light covering the city gate. Refusing to believe the trickery that was happening in front of them, they chopped it with their axes.

“Rumble!” The hacking sounds stirred up a series of loud sounds. Almost like ink soaked into water, a strand of golden light entered the axes that were striking the golden wall and made their way towards the troll foot soldiers’ bodies, speedily occupying and wrapping them up in its light. Their bodies disintegrated in the next instant, forming countless small specks of light.

“What’s happening!?” Even the fearless trolls had been frightened silly as they witnessed this scene. Fearful of this unknown and mysterious power, no one was willing to head up and hit the wall with their axes again.

‘What does this mean? Have those humans invited an immortal to help them out?’

Under the envelopment of the golden light, the city gate was currently restoring the badly damaged areas at a speed visible to the naked eyes. This scene was driving the trolls deeper into insanity.

…………

“I believe your excellency is probably the one responsible for this place.” Wiping away the bloodstain on her face, the red-haired girl walked up in the front of the disheveled-looking knight.

“…That’s right. What about it?” The knight captain looked left and right as he unhurriedly stood up.

Since this was the first time he interacted with a demon in such a close setting like this, it was impossible for his heart not to panic. However… since he was about to die in the end, what was the point of panicking anyway?

‘Although I have to say, this young demon girl looks kind of pretty… it’s a shame she’s not a human.’

“Our numbers are too low compared to the numerous troll foot soldiers out there. We can’t hold onto our position like this, I need your assistance for this matter.” The red-haired girl looked at the knight who was exuding an indolent air in front of her. She didn’t explain further as a trace of annoyance revealed themselves in her eyes.

“Oh? Do we even have the ability and spirit left to do that?” The knight leader revealed a self-deprecating smile.

“Yes, you definitely can. You can just dispatch a knight towards the Chivalric Order in the border town and ask for assistance. This is the best way to alleviate the situation you’re facing,” the red-haired girl said in a grim voice.

“Mhm, I understood… Hmm? What did you say? You want me to call for reinforcement??” ‘Aren’t these guys here to take over the city wall? Why are they suggesting I inform the knight’s association? Don’t they know that the knight’s association and demons are mortal enemies?’

The knight captain felt somewhat at a loss.

“Duh? Do you really want to see this city fall into the enemy’s hands and its residents slaughtered by the butcher’s knife?” The red-haired girl raised her eyebrows.

“??? Ah?” ‘Holy mother in heavens! There are actually demons nowadays who are beginning to care about the fate of us humans! ‘

“All of you… isn’t your purpose here to claim this city?”

“Isn’t that what those bunch of trolls are trying to do? …If you continue to be this indecisive, it’s going to be too late to do anything later.”

“…Did all of you come to help us??” The knight took a step back in disbelief.

‘Humans are being assisted by demons in their fight against demons? This was unbelievable… Even for a modern fairy tale’s standard, isn’t it impossible to make up such a nonsensical story?’

“You all are true knights for ceaselessly fighting to the death. What’s wrong for a knight to help a fellow knight?”

“…” Looking at the bloodstained-filled black robes on the demon girl’s body, the knight captain gradually came back to his senses. Calmness gradually began to settle in his eyes.

He immediately jumped backward and grabbed a knight that was snoring while lying on his stomach.

“Gouza! Get the f*ck up and call for assistance!”

…………

“Steel Breaking Claws! Iron Decimating Punch! Ferocious Tiger Kick!” The lamp post in Huo Lei’s hands contained an overbearing aura, almost like a tiger as it was swung about. Jumping up suddenly and bringing his palms together, the solid, iron-made lamp post ferociously swung towards the troll’s head and turned it into a blossoming flower.

“Broken Structure Restoration.” Huo Lei snapped his finger. As if it was going back in time, the twisted and distorted light post forcefully straightened itself. “Come! Let’s continue! The Knight Climbing A Tree! Magical Girl Takes Flight!”

Compared to Huo Lei who was fighting to his heart’s content, Bai Ji was in an extremely pitiful state. As she was currently starving, she was unable to release the power of her【Divine Vein】 or her magic. Her actions had also become incomparably slow.

Just the mere act of slashing her scythe into the troll foot soldier’s body was enough to exhaust her, making her gasp for breath.

“Your highness…”

“Stop persuading me! I won’t lower my taste even if I die!” As she saw the green troll’s blood flowing on the ground, Bai Ji spat in disgust.

“What Lin is trying to say is that there are still a number of human knight corpses on the ground that had recently passed away. Perhaps they wouldn’t mind…” Lin’s eyes were indistinctly observing Bai Ji. Whenever Bai Ji got herself into danger, she would make a move to successfully save her from her predicament. Bai Ji, who was having difficulty in moving freely, had been saved quite a number of times thanks to her.

“…These frontline knights were all venerable people who used their blood and flesh to buy time for their posthumous relatives. What do you mean by this sentence? Do you want me to desecrate their corpses?” Bai Ji’s tone suddenly plummeted and turned cold.

“…Lin had spoken out of turn.” Lin’s eyelids slightly drooped.

“Sorry if Lin speaks out of turn, but your highness’ thoughts are seemingly different from the average vampire…” As she looked at the shivering Bai Ji, who was barely on her feet even with her scythe as support, a strange kind of radiance began to flicker in Lin’s eyes.

Without a fresh blood supply, the activities of a vampire’s body would drastically decrease. Symptoms such as “Chills and Stiffness” would also begin to appear.

“Clatter.” Without a magic supply, Goutermera was forced to shrink itself into a small hair clip.

“Woah~!” Bai Ji, who had suddenly lost the object supporting her, shakily stumbled and fell to the ground.

…………

“Leader, we’re almost there.” The lofty knight had a solemn complexion on his face. No matter how many kilometers he was away from the city gate, he could clearly smell the strong bloody scent from here.

“Radiant Knight, please protect your followers,” Squad Leader Landi, who was holding onto his pendant, said as he prayed.

This time, the decision they made was unlike the past; In the truest sense of the word, their actions were considered an act of insubordination.  Although Landi had already prepared for the worst, what unsettled him was his teammates at his back, who had all insisted on following him.
