Chapter 67: An odd-looking sight at the city gate tower.

As if time stopped, the expression of the troll foot soldier who was advancing with his axe went still. His entire body resembled a paint coated statue as he stood unmoving in the wind.

Crouching on one knee with his blade edge sticking onto the ground, Ji Bai slowly stood up. After swinging and causing radiance to emanate out from it, he put it away.

As the winter wind gently scraped past, the troll foot soldier immediately split into two. Clusters of blood clots exploded out of the spot where it was bisected.

“Mr. Ji Bai! A-Are you alright?”

“See, I already said it before. The vitality of an obscene middle-aged man is very tenacious… By the way, I didn’t think this guy was actually so strong, nyaa?~” Lil’ Sha covered her ears and moved back a few steps. The wind that【Watcher’s Fury】conjured had scraped her ears, causing it to hurt badly. This was vastly different from Ke’er, who had replaced her looks of worry with a =v= expression and was hugging her tail.

“My arrival isn’t too late I hope.” Ji Bai’s eyes swept his surroundings in a circle as he held onto his sword.

“That was so cool, I salute you comrade! I owe you one. To be able to kill a troll in one strike, you’re the most amazing human I have ever met! I was blind before. If you’re free, why don’t we exchange pointers?” After seeing the person who just arrived, Huo Lei let out a series of large, unrestrained laughs. Without the slightest degree of unfriendliness, he held onto Ji Bai, whose height was just up to where his abs were.

It was very difficult for trolls to approve of outsiders. If a troll acted kindly to one, then this meant that they were beginning to recognize them.

“Let’s save it for later. Don’t we currently have more important things to do?” Ji Bai shot a glance at the troll foot soldiers that were incessantly leaning against the city wall.

“Mr. Ji Bai~” Ke’er placed her hands together. Her large watery eyes looked at Ji Bai as her tail incessantly swung.

“This shouldn’t be a place where good children ought to be, try to stay at a safe spot.” Ji Bai nodded his head at Ke’er. After motioning to Lin-Tuo with a glance, he focused his attention at the trolls that were now rushing towards him.

“Alright. My human brother, shall we compete and see who kills the most?” Huo Lei was eager to begin fighting.

“There’s no need for that. But even if we did, I wouldn’t lose.” With the long sword over his shoulder, Ji Bai brushed the tip of his nose with his thumb.

“Hahahaha!! Let’s charge!”

“The only person that’s able to find a common ground with these barbaric trolls should probably be that obscene middle-aged man… I have a strong feeling I’m growing more and more incompatible with those two,” Lil’ Sha pouted as she saw the human-troll pair rush onwards.

“Oh, really? I have a nagging feeling that you all will be getting along very well in the future though.” Lin-Tuo walked up to her and smiled.

As the second person on the scene who wasn’t surprised by Ji Bai’s abilities, Lin gazed at Ji Bai in thought.

‘After the royal highness inexplicably appeared in such a place and flew away without bidding farewell, Ji Bai suddenly dropped down from the skies… This kind of coincidence is just too perfect.

‘Don’t tell me that this man is having an affair with the royal highness?’

Lin’s eyes turned dangerous for a split second.

‘No… That’s not possible. He obviously hates vampires very much. These two people would probably fight right away if they were to meet up. This possibility shouldn’t exist.’

As she thought up to this point, Lin seemed to relax and slowly heaved out a sigh.

……………

“Ol’ Kong, the city door has already been breached! All of you try to obstruct the trolls! I will head up and see how our fellow frontline knights are doing!” Squad Leader Landi loudly shouted while holding onto his molybdenum longsword. After separating himself from the group, he rushed up to the city walls.

The troll foot soldiers who were outside the city gates discovered this small group of knights as well.

“Trolls…” When they saw the roughly three-meter tall fiendish-looking trolls ahead of them, the lofty knights felt their complexions turn pale. Following which, they viciously spat out a mouthful of saliva and tightly held onto the long axe in their hands.

“Come! It’s not as if I’ve never fought a demon before! They all have two shoulders and a head. Sc*ew your mom and bring it!” Ol’ Kong spewed out a few lines of down-to-earth vulgarities, not only in an attempt to bolster the courage of his team, but also to raise his own morale.

However, with the departure of his leader, he was the only remaining golden knight in the squad, some of them were recruits had just been promoted to the rank of iron knights. Ol’ Kong was truly clueless as to how many seconds they could hold back the enemy for their squad leader.

………..

Based on the degree of damage done to the city gate, Landi was certain that the situation on top of the city walls wasn’t optimistic. If it wasn’t for the fact that the city interiors weren’t permeated with trolls, he would have suspected that all of the frontline knights were already dead.

Landi was still unclear what sort of impact his lone presence could make, however, he knew that this was currently the only thing he could do.

He and his squad mentally readied themselves beforehand, no one planned to go back alive after this.

“Clank! Clink…” Sounds of clashing weapons and shouts faintly came through.

‘That’s great! There are definitely some frontline knights still alive. Let me go and join up with them now!’

Landi thought so as he hastened his pace.

As the distance from the city gate tower shortened, the sounds reverberating from above became even clearer.

“…Magical Girl Takes Flight! Chest-Shattering Boulder!”

‘??? Is someone doing some street performance on top of the city gate tower? What the heck does taking flight mean?’

Landi was completely stunned the moment he scaled up the city walls.

The scene was as chaotic as he expected. ‘Mhm it’s indeed pretty chaotic.’ There were people raising their swords and beating each other, people soaring in the skies, people watching what was happening, people watching the show, people taking flight while sitting on lamps, the list was innumerable.

‘While the battle is indeed intense, there isn’t a single human to be found here…’

“Eh? Uncle, are you part of the big brother knights that are sent here as reinforcement?”

As he felt two pairs of curious-filled eyes sizing up his body, Landi blinked and looked over.

‘Cat race?! And there are even two of them??’

“All of you! Don’t come over!” The badly startled Landi actually wore his helmet backwards in panic.

‘It’s over, it’s all over! These two vicious demons wouldn’t take advantage of my predicament and kill me, right?!’

As if sensing a threat to his life, Landi erupted with a set of shocking and yet difficult uncomplicated movements with one fell swoop. After shifting energy to the soles of his feet, he perfectly executed a backflip and maintained a safe distance from the two catgirls, while at the same time, shifted his helmet to the right position.

“What is this uncle doing?” Ke’er tilted her head in confusion.

“I don’t know… Are all knights always that freakish in nature?” Lil’ Sha knitted the tip of her brows.

“Weren’t the trolls the ones that are attacking this city? Why are cat people also here… Damn it, don’t tell me we’ve been tricked?! The cat race is truly treacherous!” After maintaining a safe distance from the two cats, Landi beat his chest and stomped his feet in a sorrowful manner, his eyes ferociously stared at the two mysterious kittens.

Just when he stretched his hand towards the sword hilt, a long, crimson whip flashed past his waist and wrapped itself around his sword, taking it away.

“One shouldn’t direct a sword’s edge at young children,” A chilly voice that caused Landi’s heart to turn cold resounded.

A beautiful silhouette bathed in moonlight appeared in the air as a pair of scarlet pupils emotionlessly looked at himself. Behind the silhouette’s body was a pair of demon wings, whose color matched that of the night skies.

“V…V…Vampires!!” If Landi still carried a figment of hope before coming up this area, that hope had now turned into ashes and disappeared.

If one were curious as to how bold and powerful vampires were, he had previously witnessed a vampire earl destroying a human town with his own eyes. They were, without a doubt, a walking human-shaped disaster.

As for him, he was the only lucky survivor of that town.

“May the radiant knight protect me…” The pendant in his bosom seemingly gave him indescribable courage. After swallowing a mouthful of saliva in his mouth, he slowly raised his head and asked a question.

“Vampire! There’s a truce clause in the agreement we signed with you! Why did you violate the agreement and aid the other demons to attack and seize this city? ”

“…Cockroach. You come over and explain things to your former colleague.” Feeling a headache appear, Lin caressed her temple as she shouted towards a person nearby who was currently slaughtering to his heart’s content.
