Chapter 55: The scarlet light that streaked past the night sky

“Kacha!” As the blade entered his body, fresh blood splattered out from within. The searing hot pain coming from his thigh gave Ji Bai no choice but to expend a lot of energy to keep his body upright. Only by doing that could Ji Bai barely stand on his feet.

This was already the third blade…

“Hahaha… Look guys, doesn’t he look like a porcupine now?”  The red-haired troll pointed at the limping Ji Bai covered with blood and laughed heartily.

“Hehehe…”

“Hahaha…Fourth brother truly is an outstanding individual!” The circle of troll soldiers that stood in the corner observing the scenes raised their weapons and began to cheer for the red-haired troll.

“Fourth brother truly is a son of heaven. Not only is he the collateral relative of the war chief and endowed with exceptional talents, but his throwing knives’ skill is also so proficient that it’s extraordinarily accurate!” The troll foot soldiers were endlessly flattering the fourth brother while sneering at the battered and exhausted Ji Bai. They were in a joyous mood at the moment.

“Sigh, it’s not good, not good at all.  Back in the days, my flying knife skills could actually strike the leaf of a willow tree from a hundred steps away. It has actually regressed by a lot.” The red-haired troll expressed its modesty, but it was apparent from the quirked up corners of its mouth that it utterly enjoyed the flattery from its subordinates.

………..

“I have said it earlier, that I should be the one to go in there. Now see how things turned out! Not only did the hostage not get saved, but he had also roped himself inside too.” Below the abandoned building, in a shrubbery a considerable distance away, Huo Lei had witnessed everything that was currently happening and slowly heaved a sigh.

Lin didn’t say anything. As she shifted her gaze to Lin Tuo, who was rubbing his gaze in contemplation, she couldn’t help but slightly furrowed her brows.

“Teacher. That guy is really going to be stabbed into a porcupine if we continue to do nothing.” Lin said indifferently.

“Why don’t we break in forcefully?  At the least, that will still give us some chance of success. I can’t wait any longer! The two of them will die if things continue on like this. ” Huo Lei rubbed his fists and palms as his hateful gaze landed on the bodies of the complacent trolls.

“To use a hostage to conduct coercion, they have truly sullied the reputation of trolls!”  Huo Lei spat a mouthful of spittle out.

“You will just play directly into their hands if you go out now. They definitely have some sort of purpose to humiliate him on such a big and open scale. What’s more, what can you even do if you head up there…”  Lin said with a dark complexion on her face.

“…I don’t know. However, it’s impossible for me to look on helplessly as my classmate dies.” Huo Lei narrowed his eyes.

“Eh? Can everyone please calm down. This poor Taoist believes this matter needs to be thought through thoroughly…” Pian Zi waved his horsetail whisker and indolently came over in an attempt to show his existence.

While the crowd was discussing, Lil’ Sha was surprisingly quiet. Her gaze tightly fixed itself on Ji Bai, who didn’t dare retaliate because of Ke’er safety and tightly bit her cherry-like lips.

“What exactly is this fool…showing off for? Is it really worth doing all this for someone of a different race?…” Lil’ Sha gritted her teeth and muttered inwardly to herself.

As he shot a glance at Lil’ Sha tightly clenching her fists, the corners of Lin Tuo’s mouth lifted up and formed a trace of a smile.

 ………..

“Hahahaha! …Kneel down for me!”

“Whoosh!”  Fresh and warm blood splattered outwards. Ji Bai, whose legs had both been pierced through by daggers, let out a stifled groan. The intense pain, accompanied by the dizziness from losing too much blood, caused his knees to turn soft as he knelt down in a battered state. Along with the fine sweat that covered his disheveled hair, his black gown had already been stained red by fresh blood.

“Oh? There’s still no movement? Seems like you had already been abandoned by your comrades. This must truly be a pitiful and miserable state of affairs, isn’t it? I truly don’t understand your lot. Do you need to go to such a step for a demon, a race that you so detest? Oh puny creature, I truly feel pitiful for you.” The red-haired troll revealed a disdainful smile as it tilted his head back to look at Ji Bai, who was kneeling on the ground with disheveled hair.

“I have a suggestion, fourth brother. Hehehe…It seemed that this guy cared about this little kitten a lot. Why not…Hehehe, we ‘bully’ this kitten in front of him? I wonder what sort of expression he will show?? Hehe…” After hearing the suggestion of this troll, the troll foot soldier around him revealed a sinister smile. They looked wickedly into the lifeless eyes of Ji Bai, then at Ke’er, whose face indistinctly carried stains of tears.

“That’s a nice idea…Hehehe…” The red-haired demon stroked his chins, as his eyes contemptibly sized up Ji Bai’s response.

“Once we are tired of toying with the cat, we can then toss it back to him. Mmmhmm. A broken cat with a puny worm is indeed a match made in heaven, hahaha!” The trolls laughed unscrupulously.

“All of you are truly pathetic.” Ji Bai, who had been silently lowering his head, said in a deep and low voice.

“Haha? Pathetic?? Don’t tell me you are still unaware of the situation, worm?” The red-haired demon said with a sneer.

“Haha.” Ji Bai laughed twice and lifted his bloodstained-filled face. “People who insult others and attempt to build their happiness around others’ misfortunes have always been those that seek for consolation and a sense of presence. I am guessing that you’ve always been someone who has been neglected inside your family, right?”

“Ignorant human! I see that you’re still unaware of your predicament!! A frail body like you actually dares to challenge me, someone that possesses the 【Divine Vein】?! The red-haired demon’s eyes were now widened wide. The ridicule from before had vanished completely, with resentment and fury taking its place.

In an instant, a light dark-brown magic burst out from the troll. A series of earth-shattering aura undulations began to press down on Ji Bai. Even the troll foot soldiers on the side were not spared, causing them to kneel down on the ground.

“You frail and puny worm, how dare you vilify me? Go to hell!” Dark-brown magic slashed outwards like a blade and sliced across the midsection of the building, turning it into two.

Struggling in his dilapidated body, Ji Bai laid down towards the floor and barely avoided the magical undulations that came slashing towards him. As he came to his senses, he found himself at the broken edge. Beneath it was the ground whose distance was 3 stories away from him. The cold night wind blew and swept past Ji Bai’s messy hair.

 ………….

“Crap!” Huo Lei’s eyes stared with his eyes wide open. Without caring that his identity was exposed, he directly rushed out of the grass heap in a rude and impetuous manner. However, that action would only be in vain.

Lin slightly furrowed her brows. Her nails had sunk into the spider tattoo on her thigh, causing a number of blood drops to flow out from her skin that gradually infested her tattoo.

“Is that guy an idiot?” Lil’ Sha gritted her jaws as she fixed her eyes on Ji Bai, who had landed himself in a precarious situation.

 …………..

I, Ji Bai, will vouch with my life and my reputation as a knight, that you’ll be alright.”

……………

“A knight’s reputation?? Does this sort of stuff matter more than life? You can only have one life, once you lose that, it’s over…” Lil’ Sha’s gaze was empty for an instant; Following which, it turned resolute.

“You obscene middle-aged man, you’d better do as you promised!”

 ………………

“Die! Maggot!” The extremely infuriated troll roared in anger. Just when it was preparing to launch a final attack on Ji Bai, who now had nowhere to hide, a cry of alarm rang out behind it.

“This is bad, fourth brother! This cat has suddenly changed its color?! …Eh, that’s not right, even its appearance has changed?!”

“What exactly do you mean by its changing color and appearance??” The red-haired troll that had been interrupted impatiently turned its head over and couldn’t help but be shocked.

“Umm, ehehe…H-Hello everyone? A golden-haired cat that was sitting on the chair was smiling and waving her hand at a stupefied crowd.

“Shit! Wretch! Is that even the cat from earlier? How dare you try to play with me??” The red-haired troll was instantly enraged. Swinging its spiked club, it smashed it towards Lil’ Sha’s head, yet to its surprise, the only thing it managed to smash was empty space. In its eyes, Lil’ Sha was almost like a projection; The spiked club had directly penetrated her body.

“Pfft pfft pfft~! Smelly trolls, stupid trolls! You actually think of smashing this young lady?  Well, all of you can die!” And just as she had finished pulling her face, the blurry space where Lil’ Sha’s body was situated began to stabilize.

“…”

“You can’t run away now!!”

“Wawa!! Save me, you obscene middle-aged man!!” As she saw the spiked club that was swinging towards her, Lil’ Sha was so frightened that her complexion turned white. She began to disregard her image and shout loudly, tearing the delicate throat of hers apart.

As for Ji Bai who was presently lying down near the broken edge, he forced himself to stand up and with a leap backward, jumped down from the building…

“To have the impertinence to play tricks on me! Die, you stinking cat!” The troll ferociously drew back the corners of its large mouth.

“Not good! Lil’ Sha!” Within the underbush, the people that were currently placating Ke’er felt their heart tightened.

And just as imminent peril approached, a scarlet light streaked past the night sky.

A crowd of bats emitting a dark-red radiance flitted by.

Lil Sha, who had closed her eyes and dared not look at what was coming, only felt herself being carried by the wind. She then unhurriedly opened her eyes.

Under the pale moonlight, a pair of pure silver ponytails was fluttering in the wind. A pair of blood-like scarlet pupils that was as calm as a lake, was almost within Lil Sha’s reach. Her white skin gave one a sense of disbelief that it belonged to a human. A girl that possessed an inhuman-like beauty was stepping on air, and Lil’ Sha was currently inside her embrace.
