Chapter 39: The start of a new term

“Ring, ring, ring…” A few severely damaged police cars were strewn all over the place on the crowded street. Like a symphony for deceased souls, their sharp and disorderly siren sounds were all in uneven pitches, they were blaring loudly.

On the disorderly streets, there laid several small short carcasses whose swollen heads were unlike those of humans. Their tissue and flesh had been thoroughly carbonized, it made it impossible to differentiate the exact type of species the organisms were when they were still alive. Golden raging flames floated near the naval area of the few corpses like small spirits, all while knights were coming back and forth in all directions. They donned a set of heavy armor under their long gown and were going around cleaning up the area while taking samples from the carcasses for laboratory tests.

‘Mutant rats are a type of demon whose innate combat ability is relatively low, a small portion of which are raised as domestic slaves by trolls… Why did they appear here?’

“Senior Holy Flame is truly an ageless sword, old but vigorous. As long as your longsword leaves its sheath, these demons that scurried in is powerless to retaliate.” The yellow-gown knight walked up to Manda, he was observing the corpses with knitted brows and smiled in a manner that carried traces of ingratiation.

“It’s really nothing… Section Head Lan, how is the evacuation going? What are the casualties?” Manda slowly moved his eyes away from the charred corpses and refocused them on the body of the yellow-gown knight.

“The common masses are completely evacuated. As for the casualties, 28 people are dead, 6 injured, and 2 missing. They are all civilian casualties; no knights have been injured or killed in battle.” Lan Yu explained.

“Mhm…” Manda gave a long and deep sigh as he closed his eyes. “Have you found out why demons appeared in the interior of the city?”

“For the time being, we still haven’t ascertained the reason. However, I have some ideas of my own… The barriers and doors had all been sealed up, thus, these demons must have been waiting inside the city’s interior for a decent amount of time. Because of this, I believe that this incident is probably the magnum opus of that dark knight group. We really should eradicate that group filled with race-traitor pests, they’re intentionally misleading people with lies!”

“Dark knights…” As if he had thought of something, Manda narrowed his eyes into a line. Eventually, he heaved a long sigh. “Lan Yu, I’m finally getting on with age. As a knight and someone propping up this sky for the future, you ought to assume responsibilities and see things through to the end… When you encounter such incidents in the future, you must never be negligent.” Manda muttered his sincere and heartfelt words to Lan Yu.

“Please rest assured, senior. While this humble self wouldn’t be able to head up to the battlefield personally, I wouldn’t lose to the various seniors when it comes to applying the spirits advocated in the knight’s creed.” Lan Yu solemnly vowed while slightly bending his body. The corner of his mouth revealed traces of an imperceptible smile.

“Mhm.  Just this point alone is enough to make me feel very assured.” The tension in his brows relaxed as Manda revealed a satisfied smile.

 ……………..

“This bunch of incompetent bungling fools! I told them to wait a while longer so they don’t alert anyone, but they just don’t listen! Bah! What a bunch of inferior beasts!”

 ………………

Ji Bai spent two days alternating between strolling his time away and returning home to fondle his cat. After the logistics department had come over to carry out their decorations and repair works, Ji Bai officially started his school term.

As he was walking to the teaching block, all the while eating the cat-food biscuits that Ke’er had passed to him in the morning, Ji Bai felt somewhat out of sorts. How could he explain it? Maybe it was because this was the first time he received handmade food from a girl, and the first time he lived together with a girl under the same roof. With that being said, they aren’t sleeping on the same bed…Cough, cough.

‘Mhm, speaking of which, this cat-food is indeed delicious, just the name is rather weird.’

Along the way, Ji Bai, who was smacking his lips and gnawing on the biscuits, began to contemplate and plan his future. His current identity at the moment was considered to be that of a legitimate spy. As for his reasons for staying in the Chivalric Order of the Moon, it was actually very simple; It was to monitor what this illegal group, who was extremely suspicious both in conduct and bearing, was planning to do. The moment they did any actions that were detrimental to mankind, Ji Bai, who would be secretly observing on the side, would immediately intervene.

If one was to ask if there were any other reasons behind his decision, it would probably be his concerns towards the little kitten that no one wanted. Even Ji Bai hadn’t thought that someone like himself, who hated demons to his very core, would take up the duty of raising a demon’s offspring. He really wondered why things ended up this way.

‘Fine! So be it. No matter what I do, the things that I’m worried about have only increased ever since I came to this school. The chief concern of which is the bloodthirst disease that I’m afflicted with.’ The irregular flare-up lately had inevitably caused Ji Bai to feel somewhat concerned.  In addition, it had already been 3 days since the last episode. In just a blink of an eye, the day that he needed to ‘alleviate’ himself was soon approaching.

What’s more, before this desperate situation arrived, he realized something that gave him a throbbing headache; All of his allowance for this month had actually been deducted because of that fight.

‘I need to think of a way… Still, even if I have to starve myself to death and jump down from the teaching block, I will definitely never commit a shady act like stealing.

‘Such a vulgar and barbarous act like stealing blood bags is something that uncivilized pariahs do. I’m a noble princess! Being tortured from the bloodthirst disease and dying is also disdainful… Hmm? Hold on a minute…’

Ji Bai furrowed his brows. He had a nagging feeling that his thoughts were somewhat seemingly amiss.

As he pondered on his thoughts, Ji Bai had already entered the uniquely-built teaching block.

The tall castle building was entirely designed in the style of Western Europe, with each and every curve on it being distinctly pronounced, this caused the teaching building to look like a city in the middle ages. Its appearance caused Ji Bai tho uncontrollably recall a series of unpleasant memories.

Upon following the address that Lan Yi gave to him, he lightly walked up to the second floor and entered the door labeled ‘First Tomato Class’.

The style of the classroom was extremely concise. There was a clean wooden floor with several school desks placed within, it was neither spacious nor a big classroom. A few hanging baskets were adorned on the back of the classroom, they formed a straight line of greenery while a series of graffiti was suspended on the white wall.

The entire classroom gave people the aesthetic impression that it was plain and simple, and yet clean and orderly.

The interior of the classroom was very quiet right now, it seemed that there wasn’t anyone on the class’ desk or the teacher’s desk. This meant that he arrived earlier than the regular students here.

At the split second that Ji Bai stepped into the classroom, he immediately detected a chilly gaze at the back seats.

He snapped out of his thoughts and quickly looked over, coming into contact with the ruby-like pupils of the silver-haired girl.
