Chapter 38: Disturbances

In a certain district that resided within the border town of a human city laid the Chivalric Order of Radiant Knights’ trade union, which was constructed on the central boundary line of the main city. Inside the trade union currently.

“We are truly ashamed! As senior holy flame knight’s visit this time was too sudden, we didn’t have enough time to prepare a ceremony in advance. May you kindly forgive us for this transgression.” As he shot another look at the person that had just arrived, the knight, a handsome, valiant and formidable-looking male dressed in a luxurious gold-colored ceremonial robe, immediately rose up from his seat and respectfully lowered his body.

“Don’t bother. There’s no need to pay any attention to gaudy stuff like this between knights.” Manda waved his hands and gestured that the yellow-gown knight ought to not be too courteous.  After he had returned the greeting, he bent his waist and sat down on the fur sofa used for receiving guests.

The yellow-gown knight slightly tensed up his eyebrows, following which he immediately recovered his courtesy smile.  Manda was unable to notice it as the duration was overly short.

“This decrepit old man had suddenly paid a visit to Section head Lan’s residence and inconvenienced you. I wonder if that has spoiled your elegant spirits?”

“What are you saying, senior? The labor union of the Chivalric Order is nothing but a direct subordinate to the Chivalric Order. Your humble self is just handling the businesses on behalf of the order and will never dare to transgress beyond that. Even if your highness strictly insists it’s a residence, it will still be the residence of countless radiance knights out there.” The yellow gown knight slightly lowered his head and replied in an extremely deferential manner.

“Haha! This old man was just cracking a joke. On the contrary, section Head Lan is rather serious. But this old and decrepit man doesn’t hate youngsters like these in the least.” Manda heartily laughed twice and looked at the yellow gowned knight, a trace of satisfaction flashing past his eyes.

“I originally worried that after his highness, the knight king, had passed away, the Chivalric Order of Radiant Knight would totally collapse from this setback. However, now that I look at it, it seems that this old and decrepit man has worried too much!  The near and distant future of the Chivalric Order no longer belongs to us old fogeys. It should belong to those extremely passionate and enthusiastic youths!” Manda satisfactorily looked at the young man in front of him that he had groomed by himself and nodded his head.

“Surely you jest, senior. When you are galloping headlong on the battlefield, I am just a little brat blowing snot bubbles on the street. Compared to the contribution of our respective seniors, our conduct and deeds are truly insignificant. If I didn’t have the help of our seniors at the start, I wonder where I would have ended up.”

“Hey, you don’t have to be overly modest. You depended on your own efforts to achieve all of this. I didn’t help you at all… Young man, continue to work hard. All of you will be the cornerstone of the chivalric order in the future.” Manda stood up and patted the shoulders of Section Head Lan.

“Reporting! Esteemed section head, I have something urgent to report!” Just at this time, the door of the office was suddenly pushed open. A knight, who had a long sword hung on his waist, stood in an upright manner outside the door.

“How impudent! Haven’t you seen that the holy flame knight has paid us a visit today?? Why are you interrupting our conversation? Step down!”

“B-But…” The low-level knight who had come forward to report was servile and didn’t dare disobey the orders of his immediate superior. On the other hand, however, the incident that had suddenly occurred was of the utmost importance.

“But, what but?! Step down for me! I will hold you responsible if you are to spoil the mood of our distinguished senior!” The complexion of the yellow-gowned knight turned gloomy, while his eyes were ferociously staring at the hesitant knight outside the door.

“Hey, hey. There’s no harm in saying what he thinks. You can just pretend that I am not around.” Manda waved his hands.

“But…Senior, it’s rare for you to come by. Why don’t you allow my humble self to accompany you to a stroll around the border town?  It isn’t some major matter, you can just leave it to the younger generations to handle it.”

“No worries. You shouldn’t delay handling matters in your branch because of me. When it comes to people in high managerial positions like ourselves, we need to understand that every decision we make involves millions of lives and that there’s no room for error!” Manda slightly frowned. His calm, yet imposing eyes were like a lion; They were glancing at the stupefied knight at the entrance and signaled for him to finish his words.

“Alright, since the senior is that insistent on it… What are you dozing off for? Didn’t you see that the Holy Flame Knight is allowing you to make your report?” In a state of helplessness, the yellow-gown knight had complied with Manda’s opinion. He then coldly glared at the knight that was making his report.

“Oh…Yes! Reporting to section head, and your highness Holy Flame Knight. According to the reports coming in from the populace, the north side of the city was currently being met by an attack consisting of a number of demons!”

“What an absolute crock of rubbish! The city gates and the sacred ability barrier are all functioning normally, so how exactly can demons burst into the city!? Do you know that you will be held responsible if you lie about the enemy’s positions??” The expression on the yellow-gown knight was so gloomy that it resembled a sea of clouds before a thunderstorm.

“Is the information accurate?” Manda placed his hands behind his back. With slightly knitted eyebrows, he turned his eyes towards the knight that was making his report.

“It’s totally reliable. There are already some casualties resulting from it! The reconnaissance station is requesting us to send out some backup to reinforce the area.”

“Has the rescue team been mobilized? How are the casualties doing at the moment?” The creases in Manda’s brows grew even deeper.

“The rescue team stated…that they didn’t dare proceed with the evacuation and assistance mission without the protection of the chivalric order.”

“How preposterous! When a calamity arrives, everyone is trying to push their responsibilities off to the other! They had absolved themselves from their responsibilities, but what about the commoners? Who should they entrust the responsibility of protecting them to?” In a fit of anger, the handrail of the chair was smacked to the point of cracking.

”Go, tell the rescue division that it’s the Holy Flame Knight that wants them to go ahead and assist the others. As for the chivalric order, they will follow soon after. I want to see if they’re willing to honor the words of an elder like myself!”

“Yes, yes…” When faced with Manda’s dignified, lion-like aura, the low ranking knight servilely nodded his head and hurriedly closed the door.

“Lil’ Lan, quickly send some knights to reinforce the north end of the city.” With knitted eyebrows, Manda looked towards the yellow-gown knight to the side, who was currently displaying an ugly expression on his face.

“No problem, senior… But, how did the demons intrude into the city?”

“We can launch an investigation on that in the future. The most important thing right now is to immediately reinforce the districts on the north end of the city. In the eyes of demons, the defenseless, unarmed citizens are no different from livestock.”

“Alright. I understand…Eh? Is senior going towards the scene now?? This place is enough with me around, so how could I possibly trouble you to set out in person?” Seeing Manda drawing the ebony sword that had accompanied him for many years, from his waist, the yellow-gown knight was slightly shocked. He went up to him and dissuaded him.

“I might as well. Ever since I retired from the frontline, this old and decrepit man hasn’t displayed his abilities for a very long time. It should be alright for me to lead the knights in person, right Section head Lan?” By the time he had finished his words, Manda had already walked to the door.

Together with the ‘clicking’ sound of the door, there was only the yellow-gown knight left in the entire office. With an ashen complexion, he clenched his teeth tightly.
