Chapter 99: Do you think I want to?

“The type of fangs that belongs to a vampire…”

“…” Lin turned silent, a faint trace of undulation rippled past her calm eyes.

“In that case, can you allow this humble self to look at them? Hehe, no offense intended, of course.” Said Gordon with a smile as if he was only cracking a small joke.

“This sort of request is already bordering on the realm of disrespect.”

“Mhm indeed. But this humble self has also said that you’re pretty special, little lady.  The etiquette applicable for humans doesn’t apply to you.” Gordon’s smile vanished from his face as his complexion gradually turned neutral.

“I refuse.” Said Lin with a neutral expression.

“My deepest apologies, this isn’t something you can refuse. My lovely vampire miss.”  His stiff and harsh tone became overbearing.

“Hey, hey. Sorry for interrupting. What do you want with my girlfriend, Mister?” Interjected a voice suddenly.

“???”

“Mhmm?” The two people had different expressions on their faces as they turned their heads around.

Gordon showed a slight frown while Lin’s face was full of astonishment and bewilderment.

Ji Bai grabbed onto Lin’s shoulder and looked at Gordon unhappily with raised eyebrows.

“I will have you move back a little, Mister. If you get so close, I will actually suspect you of taking advantage of her.” While he calmed down the agitated Lin, he waved his hands and shooed Gordon away like a housefly.

“Calm down. Do you think I want to do this? If you don’t want to stir up trouble, then listen to me.” Whispered Ji Bai into Lin’s ears while holding on to her as she was shivering from head-to-toe and attempting to break away from himself.

‘Speaking of which, this parasite’s skin is actually pretty tender. Mhm, just something I have accidentally observed.’

Lin stopped her struggles and her appearance and complexion gradually changed into the look of a person that had nothing to live for.

“Are you the boyfriend of this young lady, Mister?” A trace of doubt flitted past Gordon’s eyes as he sized Ji Bai from top to bottom.

“What? Do I not look like it?” Ji Bai wrapped his arms around Lin’s shoulders. The vampire covered half of her face to prevent Gordon from spotting any flaws.

“Mister, one mustn’t rescue someone from their predicament purely on one’s whims. Especially in circumstances where you’re not aware of the other party’s identity.” Said Gordon, showing a superficial smile.

“Oh, my girlfriend is rather shy, that’s all. We’ve already been dating for half a year. Does Sire have any thoughts about that?”

“If those words ring true, Mister, then I’m very sorry to offend and tell you that this girlfriend of yours is not normal.”

“In that case, may I ask if you’re normal then?” Ji Bai shot a meaningful glance at Gordon.

“It’s my business to decide whether my girlfriend is normal or not. It has nothing to do with you in the least.” His cold words carried a trace of solemness in them.

“Her body characteristics are completely different from yours.”

“You don’t say! How can a man and a woman have the same characteristic? And what does this have to do with you?”

“There’s a possibility that she might not be human.”

“And what does that have to do with you again?”

“Don’t stick your nose into someone else’s affair, alright? Do we also need to get your permission beforehand before we check-in at a hotel? If that’s the case, let me lay out the truth for you: No matter how abnormal my girlfriend is, even if she were a masochistic, silent, expressionless and heartless parasite that’s addicted to Yuri, I’ll still… Hiss!”

Ji Bai had to take in a mouthful of cold air before he could finish his words. A small hand was ferociously pinching the soft flesh of his waist and twisting it 90 degrees sideways.

‘How can this parasite be so ungrateful?? Doesn’t she know that I am lending her a hand?’

Gordon’s complexion gradually turned cold. Taking out a silvery-black ring strung with a string from his pocket, he threw it towards Lin.

“Hssss…” Before Lin could react, the slivery-black ring began to corrode and melt the instant it got into contact with her skin, causing a series of white smoke to ascend into the air.

“Molybdenum silver. Being silvery-black in color while soft in nature, the amount of【Dark Matter】it contains is stable at 0.5 percent. If it touches the skin of a vampire, it vaporizes and melts.”

“Are you going to continue to play the fool or will you leave now, mister?” Gordon’s dark and cold gaze was directed at Ji Bai.

“…Say, what sort of smokescreen have you laid down? Are you going to use that as justification to lay your hands on an honest maiden in broad daylight?” Ji Bai secretly took a step back.

“You go ahead first.” After he had quietly told her that, Ji Bai pushed Lin away.

Lin widened her eyes slightly. After looking into the distance and seeing Ji Bai blocking the way behind her, she turned around and ran off.

“As I expected, you’ve just been putting a pretense throughout. Do you know what you’re doing? As a human, you’re covering up for a vampire and allowing her to conceal herself in this city. When the time comes, do you think you’ll be able to take on responsibility for the disaster she’ll cause?”

“I am capable of weighing out the pros and cons of a situation.” Replied Ji Bai calmly.

“I can understand that self-preservation is the first law of nature, but you have treated countless lives as a bargaining chip for you to profit on. A person like you should die.” Gordon narrowed his eyes.

Ji Bai slightly drooped his head while holding the hilt of his two-handed longsword. His eyes were directly locked with Gordon’s.

It was impossible to make a move under the watchful eyes of passersby. At least, this was what the two parties thought.

【Ingredient: Ghost butterfly’s wings, Flower-shaped leaves】

Gordon lowered his eyes as he twirled two thin sheets of items in his fingers, one black and one yellow. As he did so, he chanted a subtle and light chant that gently reverberated outwards.

While he couldn’t distinguish which race the language belonged to, Ji Bai had a nagging feeling that this long and incessant tone was somewhat familiar.

Before he could put more thought into it, Gordon opened his eyes, and a dim golden luster radiated outward from his pupils.

【Ingredients: Dimension Shell, Sharp Claws of the Asiatic Cat 】

【Clairvoyance】

【Teleportation】

A double chant.

Gordon had approached Ji Bai while closing his eyes and chanting, as if he was intentionally using Ji Bai to hide himself.

A dim and faintly discernible golden rune circle appeared below his feet. Then the air around him distorted and fluctuated. It was as if a tangible substance was currently obeying his will to wrap up and cover his surroundings.

A dazzling white light flashed. Gordon, alongside his rune circle, had vanished without a trace.

“…Witchcraft?” Ji Bai looked at the air in front of him with tightly knitted eyebrows.

He recalled the experience he had gone through when he had eliminated the shaman race; The black-gowned creatures able to call forth the rain and summon the winds, as well as the abstruse language that was continuously coming out of their mouths.

‘A human has actually managed to master witchcraft?’

…………

The golden rune circle reappeared in a small, dark alleyway.

“It’d be better for Little Miss Vampire to give up on her plans of slipping away.” A series of cold laughter resounded behind Lin’s back.

“Teleportation…” Lin curled up her lips as she coldly looked at the slowly approaching Gordon who was pressuring her into a dead end.

“Please stop while you can. I have no reason to fight you.” Warned Lin calmly.

The differences between a high-level species and a low-level species were like a chasm; No matter if it was the difference in bloodline, the【Magic Technique】knowledge they could possibly learn, the constitution of their bodies, or their 【Magic】reserves.

However, this wasn’t absolute.

As a race belonging to the lowest stratum, humans might be able to kill a demon, but only when they paid a disastrous price.

It would probably require twenty or even a hundred lower-ranked knights to kill a demon foot soldier.

On a certain level, humans were the same as goblins; They were all delicate living creatures with a short lifespan.

To summarize, a lone human challenging a demon was simply looking for death.

“Is that so? But this humble self does.” Gordon’s tone turned sinister towards the end of his sentence.

“The day when mankind lives in peace will never arrive as long as demons are still alive.” Gordon drew out his sword and pointed it at Lin.

“Are you making your move now? That is truly an unwise choice.” Lin had always tried to avoid fighting. She hated conflict and fights, especially those that were meaningless. She would never reveal her fangs unless it was as a last resort.

【Lightning-Gale Decapitator】

A sharp sword-tip streaked through the air and abruptly forced its way forward.

“I am not fond of fighting, so may I request that Sire stops pushing my limits.” Lin pinched the sword tip with her two fingers. Her tone was gradually losing patience.

As the saying goes, even the Maitreya has limited patience. Just because she doesn’t want to fight doesn’t mean that she had to meekly submit herself to humiliation.
