Chapter 91: Unintentional Crime

Actually, science is a type of basic magic. Going by that line of thought, matters that can’t be explained by using science are the same as being unable to be explained by basic magic. Once one looks at it this way, they would realize that it was just an extremely ordinary occurrence.

To conclude, everything has two sides. If one were to witness some unscientific supernatural phenomenon, they shouldn’t make judgment haphazardly; More often than not, the truth is hidden away.

“…Is this the justification you’re going to give regarding the crime you committed?” A member of the discipline committee was meticulously jotting down Ji Bai’s remarks while sizing him up like a prisoner in a trial.

“I’m still going to repeat what I said. I absolutely did not sexually assault an underage girl. A teleportation scroll sent me there. At the end of the day, it’s all just a misunderstanding.” With a sheet of glass separating them, Ji Bai sat inside the inspection room with a face full of helplessness.

“Who gave you that teleportation scroll??” Asked the discipline committee member while wearing an expressionless look on his face.

“Uhm… My friend gave it to me.” Ji Bai gazed into the distance.

“Your friend? Are they a student in this school? Why in the world would they give you such an item?”

“Sigh… Youngster, have you ever had dreams before?” Ji Bai beat his chest while letting out a long sigh.

“Hmm?”

“Ever since I was young, I had a noble and unattainable dream… And that is to become a sprinter. However, I never had the talent nor the skill required.” Filled with regrets, Ji Bai drank his tea.

The discipline committee member remained silent and tacitly motioned for Ji Bai to continue his story.

“Until that day, when my friend came to my house. He tested me, checked the results, and spoke to me in a meaningful and heartfelt manner. He said, ‘It is extremely difficult for you to improve any further, the only path you can take is the one that strays from the rest… Which is what is commonly known as cheating.’”

The discipline committee member tightly creased his brows.

“So he went through a round of demonstrations. How, by using this scroll I’d be capable of achieving the dream I carried with me since I was young… I accepted it and that’s how everything went.” Ji Bai finished his words with a face full of depression.

“I can understand your feelings.”

“Mhm? Is that so?”

“I really admire the spirit you have lying through your teeth. However, if you’re using that to deceive me, I’m afraid I have to wonder whether your intentions were to somewhat insult my intelligence. Wouldn’t you say so?” The committee member shot a meaningful glance at Ji Bai.

“N-No. How could that be?? This truly is a misunderstanding. Even though what I said may be pretty unbelievable, the idea behind it is very clear and definite, am I wrong?”

‘Dang, aren’t I just showing off in front of a junior…? Why is the cost of pulling off this flashy show so high?’

“Ha! Why would a teleportation scroll purposely send you under the bed covers in a girl’s dormitory?? Not even trolls would necessarily believe you if you told them this story!” Said the committee member with a sarcastic smile on his face.

“Just wait, the president of the disciplinary committee will soon arrive. She has zero tolerance towards scum like you!”

Before his voice could completely fade away, an expressionless young girl wearing a long red ponytail and a set of black knight uniform pushed the door open and walked into the room. Following behind her was a small girl wearing a hood, playing a PSP.

The young girl had a pretty face. While her body was rather well-developed, it was obvious that it couldn’t be compared to a certain vampire that Ji Bai knew. As for her most notable feature, it was the pair of red horns on her forehead that resembled a cow’s horns.

“The crimson demon clan…” Ji Bai narrowed his eyes.

“President.” The committee member hurriedly stood up.

“The student who committed the crime of indecency. Is the man over there that scum?” The young lady’s eyes were gazing at Ji Bai, lacking any emotion.

“That’s right, it’s precisely this guy with a hooligan’s face. The victim is a small, pitiful, weak, and helpless cat-eared loli that’s charmingly bright and gorgeous…”

“Hey, hey—What is up with those strange adjectives?” Ji Bai retorted, no longer wishing to listen to the speech that pungently reeked of someone with chuunibyou describing a Mary Sue.

“I am just carrying out my duties. The account of the whole accident was something the victim personally wrote.” The committee member curled his lips.

“Did you do it?” The young, red-haired lady looked at Ji Bai emotionlessly. She didn’t show her anger nor her discontent and only looked at him in a completely expressionless manner. However, one was able to feel a sun seemingly burning behind her, as if they were being interrogated under the torture of violent flames.

“I did it, but it’s definitely not something I wanted. It’s a misunderstanding.” Ji Bai returned her gaze indifferently.

“Mhm.” After the young, red-haired lady had locked eyes with Ji Bai for a moment, she spoke to the committee member. “Let him out.”

“Eh?” The committee member was befuddled. He was clueless why his superior would so easily set this molester free like that.

“To tell you the truth, I’ve very much hoped that you would actually do that.” Ji Bai heard her soft voice as the young, red-haired lady passed by him.

“A crime is a crime. There’s no redemption… Don’t tell me unintentionally committing a crime is not a crime anymore? Even when you caused harm to someone else, you’re still trying to stand on the moral high ground. I truly despise you humans.” After finishing her words, the young, red-haired girl walked out the door without pausing.

Ji Bai stood where he was with slightly knitted brows.

“Pah!” Without warning, a karate chop arrived, ruthlessly chopping down on his head.

“Ouch!”

“You brat, all you do is to stir up trouble all day long. Now I also have to bail you out. Are you a troublemaker or what?” Lan Yi’s voice made its way into Ji Bai’s eardrums.

“Eh? Why are you here?”

“Nonsense! How would you get out if I wasn’t here? Haha, follow me.”

“Eh? Where are we going?” Ji Bai rubbed his head. Doubt was all over his face.

“To see the leader of our Chivalric Order. Speaking of which, you still haven’t met her…”

“The Leader of the Chivalric Order of the Moon Knights? Why do I have to go and meet her?”

Lan Yi sized up Ji Bai like she was staring at a wild boar.

“An obscenity case inside this Chivalric Group is a ‘once in a century’ occurrence. Do you think we can just casually decide the outcome of this incident you created?”

“…”

“Alright, stop dilly-dallying. Follow me.” Said Lan Yi as she moved to the front.

“Aren’t you going to ask me about what happened?”

“Why should I ask? I know that you didn’t do it out of your own desire. Otherwise, I’m sure that Ke’er, who has been sleeping in the same house as you, would already be holding herself up against the wall while walking.” Said Lan Yi emotionlessly.

“But, does unintentionally committing a crime means that you’re innocent? Some stuff is far less simple than what you think.”

“…It’s my mistake.” Ji Bai admitted his error and lowered his head.

“Alright, alright. You can save that for the Chivalric Head. Well, you don’t have to be that nervous though, She doesn’t really care about these things… She just needs to go through the procedures, that’s all. That reminds me, when the moment comes, make sure to be mindful of your words. The identity of the Chivalric Head is a bit unique. She is the mother of a student that you don’t get along with.” Spoke Lan Yi.

“…Mother??” For some unknown reason Ji Bai had a strange feeling.
