Chapter 113: Confrontation

“Clank!” The massive hammer and giant axe collided together, sending metallic sparks in all directions. The air aguishly howled as the wind pressure caused by the clash tore through it.

“Uuuuaya!” The goblins’ morale was greatly boosted as they saw the attention of their nemesis being drawn elsewhere. Raising their clubs, knives, and forks high up in the air, they rushed towards Ji Bai and Lil‘ Sha.

‘Let’s get rid of that helmet wearing human first!’

As Ji Bai caressed Xiaomu’s face and felt its warmth gradually disappear, he cut down a lock of her hair and put it into a pouch on his belt.

The corpse of a knight who had heroically sacrificed her life shouldn’t be exposed to the wilderness, but…

Humans were ultimately just too feeble. They were incapable of withstanding the heavy weight of an iron portcullis.

No matter how he looked at it, it was inappropriate to bring the incomplete chunk of her corpse back like that. Thus, he could only adopt this method to ‘bring her home’.

“Obscene middle-aged…”

Ji Bai stood up and retrieved the fang-shaped two-handed sword that was sticking upright in the ground, after stroking Xiaomu’s forehead a final time.

With his right hand on the sword’s hilt, he bent his left elbow and placed the body of the sword onto his forearm, pointing its tip towards the rushing tide of goblins.

“Get back.” After Ji Bai placed Lil’ Sha behind his back, an incomparably chilly gaze radiated out from his iron helmet.

[Common Class – Lightning Gale Decapitator]

The long sword slashed effortlessly through a goblin’s chest like a thunderbolt.

“Uugyaa!” The color of excitement flushed past the goblins’ eyes as they saw their comrade successfully attracting their opponent’s attack. By attacking their comrade, it was inevitable that he would reveal his flaws.

While goblins were clueless about swordsmanship and incapable of using [Magic], their advantage in hunting prey laid in their numerical superiority. They would defeat their opponents by relying on the weak points they revealed when slaying their comrades. It was a time-tested strategy, particularly against opponents with sluggish weapons like a two-handed sword.

[Common Class – Tornado Blade]

However, just when the crowd of goblins pounced towards him, the blade, which looked as if it had overextended its reach, changed directions abruptly and adapted a protective stance in front of its owner. Holding the blade hilt in a reverse grip, its owner, Ji Bai, turned his body around and unleashed a slash.

The collision of the fang-shaped sword and the goblins’ coarse weapons generated sparks. Following which, their clubs, knives, and forks were directly chopped off. At this moment, the advantage of carrying a better weapon was revealed.

“Uuguguya!”

‘This guy’s sword is really useful… Once we kill him, it will be ours!’

Greediness and jealousy were the characteristic traits of the goblin race.

After those who had lost their weapons fell to the ground, a new wave of goblins surged forward once more, preventing Ji Bai from continuing his pursuit.

Raising his longsword into the air, Ji Bai took large strides and gathered his strength, unleashing it in the form of a heavy slash at a goblin’s head.

‘Haha! Foolish human, you’re truly full of flaws!’

The goblins were exhilarated as they saw Ji Bai making such drastic action. Wider movements demand a greater commitment of physical strength. It was also harder for the caster to cancel his movement midway. Acting like this was practically the equivalent of courting death!

However, just when his heavy attack was about to strike, Ji Bai changed it from a horizontal slash into a vertical one with unbelievable speed, completing the move in an instant and catching the goblins off-guard.

It wasn’t until now that they came back to their senses. If they were always thinking of ways to cause their opponent to expose their flaws, what was stopping the opponent from using their own brains and doing the same to them?

Everyone had the same thought in their mind, but the deciding factor was who had been quicker, and whose feint was more superior…

[Tornado Blade]

It was too late for the goblins, who could no longer stop their movement or block the attack with their weapons. They could only accept the ferocious horizontal slash.

“Swish!” A sharp gale pierced through the air, eliminating three goblins from the battle.

Ji Bai shattered the head of a goblin’s corpse with his foot and made use of his victory to pursue the retreating enemies, stabbing his long sword directly at the withdrawing goblins.

The goblins evaded backward as the long sword in the air suddenly changed direction. Along with its movements, Ji Bai’s body swiveled about.

As he turned around, a vertical slash that brought along a strong gust of wind, heavily smashed downwards.

[Crushing class – Watcher’s Fury]

“Boom!” The goblins who weren’t able to evade in time were smashed into pieces, along with some slabs of stones that were cut out of their crevices.

“Uuaawawa!?” The goblins had been thoroughly beaten silly by the illusory techniques, with no one daring to go forth and launch a rash attack.

The essence of swordsmanship laid in the form, not the moves.

The number of sword skills Ji Bai had learned to be proficient in was countless. Excluding some supplementary sword techniques, only a number of them were mostly aimed at killing their enemies.

Ji Bai hadn’t contemplated much when it came to choosing sword techniques to kill his enemies. To him, a sword technique that could kill his enemies was a good technique, and there was no need to be fussy. Ji Bai’s swordsmanship laid more on the ability to react and adapt quickly.

After practicing to the point of perfection, Ji Bai had few rivals in swordsmanship and thus, achieved the title of knight king.

In order to achieve such results, Ji Bai had cultivated an indispensable habit; He would always make an all-out effort when dealing with heretics, not lowering his guard even for a tiny bit.

Even a goblin was capable of taking his life if he lowered his guard. That was how weak the human race was.

[Tornado Blade]

The goblins were completely perplexed; They were completely clueless as to whether his attack was real or just a ruse and were worried that he would suddenly change his move to slaughter them if they went forward and exploit the weakness he revealed.

Filthy blood splattered everywhere as the blade cut through the goblins’ chests without any hesitation.

“Uwaaauyaaa!” The flustered and exasperated goblins yelled in pain; They had decided to band together and use their numerical superiority to overwhelm Ji Bai.

As if they reached a common consensus, every goblin brandished their weapons and pointed its tips towards Ji Bai.

Ji Bai rested the two-handed longsword on his elbow and clasped his hand onto its hilt.

[Common Class – Capric Counter Handguard]

“Clank… Clank!” The knives, forks, and sticks were stuck by the handguard of the fang-shaped long sword, sending dazzling sparks outwards into all directions.

Having repelled each and every one of the goblins’ weapons, Ji Bai abruptly swung his sword, slaughtering those goblins who had now been reduced to sitting ducks.

“Watch out, obscene middle-aged man! Behind you!”

After hearing her voice, Ji Bai turned around, only to see a shining dagger being pierced into his abdomen.

“Ogaogaoga!” The goblin delightfully cheered, as it saw its sneak attack succeeded.

Ji Bai dragged the cheerful goblin towards him with a hand, and ferociously shattered the bridge of his nose with his sword’s hilt. He then tossed the goblin outwards and cut off its head with one strike of his sword.

“Old man! Are you alright?”

Ji Bai shook his head and pulled out the dagger that was pierced into his abdomen in a casual manner. He then threw it towards a goblin who was assaulting him from behind, stabbing it to death.

Meanwhile, Huo Lei and the troll commander were still exchanging blows. Every time their weapons collided, sparks would fly.

“ELDilecarent!”

Clasping onto the tip of his axe’s handle, the troll commander enchanted its blade with light-orange [magic]. This magic pressurized the atmosphere, causing whistling noises to resound as several distortions of space appeared.

[Destructive Class – Rock Piercer]

While trolls possessed thick skin and flesh, their movements were not as agile. The only way for them to neutralize an attack was through blocking it – and Huo Lei was no exception to that.

“Haa!” A massive amount of sparks were ignited as the axe smashed into Huo Lei’s hammer.

Huo Lei suppressed a grunt as his life energy seemingly suffered a big blow. He was gradually being forced into a disadvantageous situation in this trial of strength.

“Hehe… Weren’t you quite the fighter on the day of the siege? Don’t tell me that you haven’t mastered a single [magic technique]?” The troll commander revealed a smile of ridicule as he continuously forced Huo Lei to step backward.

“Crack…” The stone slabs around his legs crumbled and fell off the stone bridge.

Huo Lei broke into heavy sweat as he shot a glance at the arduous depth below… Even as a troll, there was a very high possibility that he would die if he fell off from here.

Ji Bai stepped on the body of the final goblin. After pulling out his sword from the corpse, he turned his gaze towards the troll commander.

[Common Class – Lightning-Gale Decapitator]

Feeling the harsh sword tip behind him, the troll commander smiled in contempt.

“Parlour tricks.”

With his thick and solid arms effortlessly intercepting Ji Bai’s blade, he flicked him away in one move.
