Observation Chapter 16: Resolution
Liu Jing’s heart swelled with joy, yet she put on an expression of deep sadness, as though she was the one in pain. “Zi Qian, you have me now. Forget about her; It’s her loss. How could she hurt someone as wonderful as you…”
“Actually, I can’t put the blame on her. The fault lies with me – I was unfaithful, and that’s why she broke up with me in anger.”
“I see…”
A strange excitement coursed through her veins. “In that case… why don’t we give her another reason to hate you… tonight?”
“I…”
Before Lin Qian could finish his answer, the door to the room suddenly burst open.
An Lan rushed in!
“Lin Ziqian! You… How could you do this to me?!”
She roared, grabbing a pillow from the sofa and hitting him fiercely with it.
Liu Jing’s wrists trembled involuntarily as she watched the scene unfold.
She felt a switch flip inside her.
“I…”
“Why do you betray me over and over again, Lin Ziqian?!” An Lan screamed, like a wife who had caught her husband in bed with another woman.
“I told you, our relationship is over.”
“NO! I-WILL-NOT-ACCEPT-THIS!”
With reddened eyes, she spat out each word through gritted teeth.
Lin Qian inwardly applauded her masterful performance as he watched the scene unfold.
‘She’s a born actress. Too bad she ended up in the Faculty of Arts.’
“This isn’t the place for your tantrum, little girl.” Liu Jing said, suppressing the rising agitation in her heart. “If you need to throw a fit, get a hotel room – You can do whatever you want there. By the way… seeing you all worked up like this is actually pretty funny.”
Her words trembled with an emotion she could not hide.
It was too arousing…
“Who are you?!” An Lan asked, fixing her with a hostile glare.
“Who I am, you ask?…”
She wrapped her arms around Lin Qian, who sat silently on the sofa. “Why don’t you tell her who I am?”
“Lin Ziqian! How dare you… Fine! Just you wait!”
An Lan snatched the wine bottle from the table. With gritted teeth, she smashed it to the ground, slamming the door on her way out.
The room fell silent once more.
Liu Jing stroked Lin Qian’s arm with a sweet smile. “Forget about her, Zi Qian. She’s too petty.”
“…I know. It’s just… I can’t really explain.”
“Oh? Care to share?”
“Well… I get a rush from cheating…” He turned around, a strange smile playing on his lips. “Making her suffer, betraying her trust… they’re just so arousing; That’s why I keep doing it. Tell me… Am I messed up?”
“Do you… really mean that?” She gulped, her heart beginning to pound in her chest.
‘This man… he’s just like me.’
“Why would I lie to you?”
“Actually… I feel the same way too. The thrill of a secret affair, there’s nothing quite like it.”
“Looks like we’re cut from the same cloth then. So, you have a boyfriend?”
Lin Qian said, a subtle glint flickering in his eyes.
“That’s right.”
Her face suddenly clouded over. “He’s hideous and loathsome, always doing things that make my skin crawl. The thought of him makes me want to puke.”
“Wouldn’t you want… a little payback from someone like that?” Lin Qian asked languidly.
“Oh, I’m already taking care of that as we speak.”
She wrapped her arms tighter around him.
“But he can’t feel anything this way. How about we do something… a bit more thrilling?”
Liu Jing said nothing, yet her breathing grew ragged.
Lin Qian leaned close to her ear, and whispered seductively, “Tonight, you’ll tie your man up, and we’ll do the things you want… right in front of him.”
“Give him a front-row seat to how you’ll get your revenge. Thrilling, wouldn’t you say?”
“Besides, I enjoy being in charge.”
She shuddered, an unusual flush rising to her cheeks.
Her pulse raced, blood surging through her veins.
“When are we doing this? I’ve got some things at home we can use~” She asked eagerly.
“Oh, what do you have? Handcuffs? A flogger? A wheel? Maybe some low-temperature candles?”
“I’ve got all of those.”
“That’s still not enough. I need something… stronger.”
“Gulp…” Liu Jing bit her lip, leaning in to whisper in his ear, “I have it all. Whatever you want~.”
Lin Qian grinned, revealing his brilliantly-white teeth. “Let’s go now. Once we’re back at your place, you tie your man up nice and tight. And then… we can begin~”
……..
11:50 PM. Deep into the night.
Police sirens filled a residential complex near West Serenity Road.
Lin Qian was on the ground floor, smoking a cigarette.
He had his excuses ready, but it turned out that Ye Li had a relative who was the police chief, and the matter was taken care of without any trouble.
Everything had gone perfectly to plan. When they arrived at her apartment, Liu Jing had bound Zhang Qian tightly with ropes like a mummy, after which he handcuffed her.
The rest had been easy: one phone call to An Lan was all it took for the police to arrive right at his location.
Given their shady backgrounds and Ye Li’s connections, a lifetime behind bars was all but certain for them.
While there were countless other ways to deal with the man, using his girlfriend was the simplest, most direct approach.
After all, how could someone with a pervert for a partner possibly be normal?
Liu Jing was a sucker for good looks and had a thing for crosses, believing that a silver one could bring her luck.
Bespectacled men held a special place in her heart, particularly when their frames were gold.
She was both a thrill seeker and masochist at her core.
Her deepest and greatest desire was to make love with a handsome man in front of her boyfriend.
That was not surprising, given Zhang Qian’s behaviour. He was far from a saint and had frequently provoked her in similar ways, fuelling a seed of revenge within her that burned far hotter than she had ever expected.
Driven by these urges, she would wander around places he frequented, looking for a man who met her exacting standards.
All he needed to do was to dress well and make himself available in these places. As long as they encountered each other, she would come to him, leaving Ye Li safe.
That was because, in his story, she was made to be physically superior to her partner. Once she subdued him, everything would fall into place.
The pair were bound by a rule he had set while creating them: They had to find their target and be intimate with them, as the other looked on – all before midnight.
Simply put, the safety of An Lan’s friend was all but assured by keeping her by his side.
Although things had gone mostly to plan, one detail struck him as odd when he arrived…
…He saw Ye Li sitting quietly on the sofa, the ropes around her hands loosely bound, almost as an afterthought.
A slight flick of her wrists would have set her free – Not even a low-budget film would use such an amateurish restraint.
A wave of confusion washed over him. Had Zhang Qian forgotten how to tie a simple knot?
Lin Qian blew out a smoke ring, unable to make sense of the situation.
It was impossible to flesh out every single detail of a character’s behaviour — especially for an insignificant extra like that.
The moon hung high above him, deep crimson like blood.
He ground his cigarette butt under his heel. He had managed to resolve the situation without incident, but…
…he could tell that things were about to get much more complicated.
Several names flitted across his mind, sending an involuntary shiver down his spine.
‘If those women ever find their way here, they’d come straight for me, no doubt about it…’
‘What am I going to do then?!’
Just then, An Lan’s voice broke the silence. “Lin Qian… I can’t thank you enough for what you did for us tonight.”
Lin Qian turned to find her and Ye Li standing right before him, having made their way without him noticing.
“Don’t worry about it. As long as everyone’s safe. How are you holding up, Ye Li?”
“I’m fine. After all, I have you here…” A peculiar glint flashed in her eyes as she smiled.”The outfit you’re wearing… Did An Lan pick it out for you? As expected of Lan-lan, she has such great taste~”
