Chapter 31: Conditions
To Ji Bai, exams whose questions had anything to do with academic research and theory of the knight’s creed were simply minor matters. As long as the questions’ nature wasn’t that of those incomparably tricky types, he could generally answer all of them.
If one was to ask for the reason, it was because the knight’s creed was something that he and his previous comrades had created together. It was a book that he had personally compiled in his own handwriting. As long as he roused up the memories inside his brain, he would be able easily to recall it. Even if his memories were incomplete, he had no problems writing a general outline of the topic.
This was why Ji Bai wasn’t particularly worried when it came to the written exams. Even if he didn’t get every question right, he had no issues in filling up the entire exam sheets with answers.
This was his attitude up until after he candidly sat down in the examination room, and the white exam sheets were passed down to him.
The interesting thing was, there weren’t any luck-based questions that could make the average underachiever happy in the exam sheet; There were no multiple-choice questions or true-or-false questions. The entire exam sheet was just a monotonous load of short answers. However, Ji Bai’s expression showed off complete arrogance.
How tricky can the questions from an illegal chivalric order’s entrance exam be? If nothing else, doesn’t it just test one’s fundamental creed and the knight’s spirit? These sort of formal questions were what Ji Bai excelled in the best.
Mhm, let me see what the first question is.
Ji Bai twisted off his pen cap and was eager to give it a shot. His eyes flitted towards the first short-answer question that was below the name column. ‘Please list out the nutritional value and beneficial bacteria contained in an apple.’
‘Hm? What? Huh? Excuse me1?’
Ji Bai descended into a state of both confusion and contemplation after he finished reading the question. His train of thought wasn’t centered on how to solve this out-of-place question, but rather, he was currently pondering whether he had taken the wrong exam papers.
If it’s the case that he had indeed taken the wrong papers was the truth, then why was the pompous sounding title on this sheet labeled ‘The Chivalric Order of the Moon’s Assessment Test for FIrst-Time Enrolling Students’.
‘Isn’t this really weird? Your daddy here only knows how to eat apples. If one wants to know more about the nutritional value, shouldn’t they ask the apple growers instead? How could I possibly know anything about it?’
Ji Bai’s feelings were extremely complex at the moment. He felt like someone who had entered the exam room confidently after reciting every exam question, and then only to have found out that the topics the teacher had given him were poles apart from the contents in the test paper.
‘This is probably one of the exceptions… Just like the crossword puzzles that come attached in a newspaper, there’s only probably just a small number of these2
‘Let’s continue and look at the next question.’
“Please draw out the vascular diagram of any demon race, and indicate their race.”
‘Go to hell! I’m not here to apply as a prosector! Let alone draw it, I wouldn’t even be able to trace it even if that was the only thing required! What exactly are they trying to play here??’
As his vision continued to float downwards, the series of outlandish questions were like flowers trying to vie for his attention. After seeing these massive amounts of information, it made Ji Bai feel like his small brain was being filled and fried to its bursting point.
This exam paper was like a key that unlocked the door to a new world. After he finished reading the entire exam paper, he heaved a rather rueful sigh.
He had now profoundly understood that the knowledge found in books was only limited. The more he relied on the knowledge gathered in the books to explore the world, the further the information that laid beyond those listed categories would appear, it completely overturned his view of the world.
‘In other words, why bother learning if it doesn’t amount to a da*n thing?’
As one of the people that were responsible for the creation of the knight’s creed, the written examination had grilled him to the point he was starting to doubt his life. The information that he possessed and learned in his entire life was seemingly useless at this very moment.
As he vacantly glanced at the surveillance cameras planted in every corner, he noticed that they were accurately pointing at himself. Ji Bai couldn’t help but swallow a mouthful of saliva.
‘The topics I revised for the exams are completely different from the topics in the exam papers, I’m currently in the exam room right now! What should I do? Will be waiting for replies, URGENT!’
‘Alright… At the very least, I shouldn’t leave the paper empty…’
Question: A young man in his prime had suddenly passed away in the house of a young succubus. Please analyze the cause of his death.
Answer: It was because he wanted to launch an assault in Azeroth3.
Question: A demonic teenager suddenly had a change of personality. Why is this?
Answer: Because he felt the beckoning of Summoner’s Rift4.
Question: A demon whose race was harmless to humans had fallen down in the streets and required assistance. Will you help him up?
Answer: I won’t help. I just want to please the questioner5.
After he filled the examination paper with answers, Ji Bai idly walked out of the exam room. It was almost as if he was casually taking a stroll in his courtyard.
“How did the exam go, Mister Ji Bai?” Ke’er was sitting on the rocking chair outside of the exam room when she saw Ji Bai come out, upon immediately noticing him, she jumped up and came up to him with her small furry tail swinging to and fro.
“It wasn’t bad.” Ji Bai gave a somewhat pertinent answer.
“I couldn’t tell that a youngster like you had some ability at all. You didn’t even leave any question empty and filled in all of them.” Lin Tuo gave a rather emotional sigh.
“Of course, you’re speaking to me after all.”
“Alright. Since you’ve already passed the exam, let’s go to the dormitory building and have them allocate a room for you.” Lin Tuo pointed to the few buildings that were on the left side of the teaching blocks and examination room.
“Hm? Allocate a dorm room? Will I have to live in this place in the future?” Ji Bai slightly knitted his eyebrows.
“Of course, what are you expecting otherwise? From today onwards, you’re a probation student of the Chivalric Order of the Moon. You would still have to attend basic theoretical lessons, undergo training and the whatnot. Thus, it’s far more convenient to stay here. What’s more, you’re exempted from all your lodging expenses, what’s there to be unsatisfied about, youngster? …However, you can still choose to go home, but your transport expenses won’t be written off.”
“…Is it an independent dorm room?” Ji Bai suddenly realized a serious problem and tentatively asked.
“You wish! An independent dorm room? Why don’t you request that everyone is assigned a bungalow adorned with a beautiful garden? Wouldn’t that suit your heart more?” Lin Tuo gave Ji Bai a contemptuous look.
“How many people are inside a room?” Ji Bai narrowed his eyes.
“The standard here is four people to a room.”
“D*mn! Four to a room? How would there even be a bit of personal space left for each other?!”
“What? Do you have any big secrets that could never see the light of the day or something?” Lin Tuo said unhappily.
‘I actually do. To an extent…’
‘I’m actually someone that turns into a vampire every few days to pilfer and drink blood! While under such a condition, you want me to live in a public dormitory building that’s filled with humans? What should I do if my condition was to suddenly erupt and I was driven into a frenzy by the bloodthirst disease?’
“Forget it, I’m not forcing you anyway. It isn’t impossible if you want to go home. We just won’t be reimbursing your transport expenses, that’s all.”
“Ehhh?! Don’t do that. It would do even if you just gave me a toilet to live in! It doesn’t matter if the surroundings’ bad or that it’s cramped! I’ll make it work as long as it’s a standalone. Is there really not a room like this here?”
“Actually… it’s not as if such a room is absent. However, there are strings attached to it.” Lin Tuo contemplated for a moment before replying.
“Eh? What’s the condition?”
“There’s a big, eight-people dormitory that’s empty right now. We were originally planning to remodel it into a working space. However, a situation suddenly occurred and we decided to turn it into a dorm…”
“Did you remodel it so I can stay in there?? Thank you!”
“Stop deluding yourself. We’d be better off turning it into a doghouse than to let you stay!” Lin Tuo said in a voice full of scorn.
“Then what exactly is…”
Lin Tuo turned his face to Ke’er beside him, who was obediently standing still with a 0v0 look on her face.
“As long as you agree to take care of this child, the top will assign this dormitory to the two of you.”

- ED: the raw literally says ‘exsecuse me?’ lol
- The original phrase was health trivia in the people’s daily newspaper. But I kinda amended it so that our English speakers can understand them better. ED Woof Note: The meaning of this is that Ji Bai mainly thought that this was one of the questions that were inherently different in the entire paper.
- Yes, that Azeroth in World of Warcraft.
- That belongs to League of Legends.
- The word for helping someone up, and pleasing someone is similar. So Ji Bai is basically doing a wordplay.
