Chapter 88: The curtain falls

The ending now concluded in a theatrical farce; The peanut gallery, which was idling about with nothing to do, scattered and everyone headed their respective ways.

Various well-known journalists were busy taking notes as a series of lively and imposing words filled their notebooks.

“If Section Head Lan Yu is somewhat dissatisfied with the judgment passed down by the tribunal court, you can definitely report to the higher-ups in the temple association who then will make the final decision.” The goatee knight looked at Lan Yu with a meaningful glance.

“Sire must be joking. Young Missus Ji is the legitimate daughter of the Fire Lance Clan. How can Lan Yu dare have any sort of dissatisfaction with it? I am here to thank young Missus Ji, as she helped obtain justice for the wronged frontline knights. No matter what happens, we definitely cannot allow our bleeding officers and soldiers to be disappointed in us…” Lan Yu lowered his head and smoothed his eyebrows as his words carried traces of genuine gratitude in them.

“It’s within our obligation to do so, that’s all. Since it’s getting late, we shan’t disturb you any further. No one has any clue how large of a wave this sudden shift of events will set off, so I suggest Section Head Lan return a bit earlier and think of ways to solidify his position.” Spoke the goatee knight. He didn’t have the slightest bit of intention to obscure his message.

“Hehe, thank you Sire knight for this reminder… I see that Mister possesses quite exceptional skills. Your rank must surely be above that of a temple knight. Although you’re someone of such great talent, you’re willing to bend your knees and become the retainer of a great family; I, Lan Yu, am deeply in awe…”

“Compared to that, Section Head Lan Yu should worry about himself first.” The goatee knight completely ignored the derisive intent in Lan Yu’s words. He then returned and stood respectfully beside Ji Yue.

Lan Yu gathered the scattered remnants of his officials — all of whom had lowered their heads and bent their waists — and left the martial arena.

At an angle where no one could see it, his eyes shot towards Ji Bai, who was cheerfully and wittily conversing with Landi, as resentment overflowed within him.

He didn’t know that man’s name, nor his appearance.

‘Who exactly is this guy who came out of the woodwork from nowhere? Is he really the representative of the local temple association? Why do I think that he is very unfamiliar? Did the temple association really have such a person?’

He could only set aside the suspicions in his heart. Lan Yu knew he was going to be busy from this moment onwards. If things went as expected, the lead stories of tomorrow’s newspapers were going to be full of doubts and assumptions about him in an attempt to keep the readers glued to their newspaper.

The direction of the public’s opinion would no longer be under his control and would undoubtedly arouse attention from the top.

Ji Bai noticed two people walking in his direction while he was untying the ropes on Landi, causing his action to somewhat falter.

“Your excellencies, is there anything else?” Ji Bai didn’t turn his eyes over towards them.

“Name.” Said Ji Yue faintly.

“Mhm?”

“As a witness, you’re required to provide your name.”

“Oh. That. Cough, cough…” Ji Bai cleared his throat and patted his chest. “My name is the same no matter the circumstances! CHU, C-H-U, and Teddy, T-E-D-D-Y. Chu Teddy is me!”

Ji Yue expressionlessly nodded her head and didn’t show any sort of reaction towards the extremely exaggerated actions of Ji Bai.

After this questioning, which was part of the procedure, she turned to leave.

“Nice moves.” After leaving those words behind, the goatee also turned his body around and kept up to Ji Yue’s pace.

The setting sun stretched out their shadows.

“Mr. Chu, you…” Landi shook his wrist and looked in a somewhat confusing matter towards Ji Bai, who was standing still in a daze.

“A Lord Knight, at least.” Said Ji Bai suddenly as he stared at the two who were walking away.

“Huh?”

“I was talking about the man with the goatee, his rank was at least that of a Lord Knight.” Said Ji Bai in a meaningful tone.

“A Lord…” Astonishment was written all over Landi’s face.

A knight’s rank was labeled from bottom to top as such: Probationary Knight, Iron Knight, Golden Knight, Temple Knight, Crucifix Knight, Lord Knight, Blessed Knight, Knight King.

Knights that were ranked Lord or above were the top fighting force of humanity. According to statistics, there were less than or vastly fewer than a hundred lord knights in the entire human alliance.

A Lord Knight was able to get a title for himself and distinguished themselves from the rest of the unknown knights. Their welfare benefits were rather generous too. Putting aside the other factors, after one advanced to a Lord Knight, the temple association would provide for them even if they didn’t show up to work. They would also give them a villa replete with female servants and would grant them whatever they wished for when they asked for it.

It wasn’t too much to say that their status and position would allow them to do whatever they please.

A knight who could get fame at his will and live a luxurious, lavish life whenever he wanted, was actually willing to be at the beck and call of a young missus from a certain household. It was truly something unexpected.

“What, are you envious?” Ji Bai shot a glance at Landi beside him.

“Hmm… A bit…” Landi embarrassingly scratched the back of his head.

“Brat, I couldn’t tell that you still had a bit of potential in you to be an honest man.” Ji Bai raised his eyebrows.

“Hmm, so why is Senior always wearing that helmet on your head?”

“Mhm. I believe that as a knight, we ought to live up to the knight’s spirit every minute every second of our life. As the saying goes, life springs from sorrow and calamity while death comes from ease and pleasure. We have to be vigilant in peacetime, with our bodies as the scabbard and the creed as our blade…” Ji Bai’s eyes rolled as he began to blabber a tirade of lies.

“Senior is truly a God! This junior has benefitted from your advice.” Landi was so touched that he behaved like a fanboy meeting his idol.

“Young man, make sure to think things through before handling matters in the future. A man can never expect others to help him.” Ji Bai turned his body to the side with his hands wrapped around his chest.

“Understood! Speaking of which, Senior, may I know who exactly…”

“Well then, I will part ways from you here.”

“Pew!” A booming sound reminiscent of firecrackers resounded. What was left in his place was a pile of molybdenum armor covered with rust spots.

…………

“Thank you, ‘Even when the end of time arrives, the toad will not be old1’ for the 10 rockets2! I love you ~mwuah~!”

On an unknown broadcasting channel, a person was wearing a pair of cat-eared hairpiece while her golden twintails were drooping on the ground like streams of moving water.

The golden-haired girl lightly pressed a finger against her cherry lips and adorably blew a kiss in the direction of a propped up phone. As for her thighs, they were wrapped in alluring white stockings.

Various messages and words were incessantly appearing on the bottom of the phone’s screen.
