Chapter 59: Absorb them clean and properly!

As darkness enveloped the skies, the situation below was headed towards a one-sided battle. Frenzied rallied cries and roars filled the harsh and bloody landscape as knights who used their bodies to reinforce the city walls collapsed in quick succession one after the other.

……….

Within the border branch of the Chivalric Order of Radiant Knights, in a certain arranged room.

“Why?! Even up to now, our superiors still haven’t issued the deployment documents? Any favorable conditions for us will slip by as time passes! What exactly are they planning to gain by delaying it for so long?!” A tall knight wearing iron plate armor while armed to the teeth impatiently slapped his thigh.

“Let’s just wait a while longer. Our superiors must definitely have their own reasons for doing something like this,” A short-haired knight said while leaning against his long sword. While burying his head inside his hands, it was unclear what he was thinking about.

“But captain, that’s what you said thirty minutes ago… Even now, there isn’t a sign of movement from the branch, it’s as if everyone went out to celebrate or something. How about we go as a squad and find the section head…”

“It’s no use. If the section head wanted to send out reinforcement, he would have done it a long time ago. Why would he even wait for so long to do that?” A masked knight calmly said. While facing a wall, he was swinging the chain hammer in his hand.

“Then what should we do?! …It’s already so late, and yet, he refuses to dispatch reinforcements! Don’t tell me that guy is planning to betray us or something!” The tall knight resentfully rose to his feet.

“Lulan! You’re not allowed to run your mouth! A knight isn’t allowed to criticize their superiors behind their back.” Their leader who was leaning against his sword had a stern expression on his face as he shot a glance at the tall knight.

“T-Then, what can we do? There’s no way we can stay here and wait for our comrades on the frontlines to die, right?! Say something, captain…”

“To go against your orders and insist on deploying is against the knight’s creed. You may even be held against the temple tribunal.” Their leader stood up with a solemn expression on his face.

“But leader…”

“However… if we were to watch on while someone is in danger, betray our comrades, or even neglect the safety of the people in this city, we weren’t worthy of becoming a knight in the first place. I believe that if the venerable Radiant Knight is still here, he would support us as well,” Before Lulan could finish his words, their leader narrowed his eyes and said.

“Everyone, this humble self is going to be a ‘sinful’ knight this time. If anyone is afraid of taking on the risk, you may leave.”

“What are you talking about, leader? No matter where you, the leader goes, I, Lulan, will be there!”

The knight who was flinging the chain hammer in his hands shifted his gaze towards that area as well. “I have been waiting for those words for quite some time now.”

“Let’s go! We’ve been held up for a long time already!” The knight’s comrades that had been sitting on the ground picked up their pikes one after the other.

“Everyone… Thank you.” The young knight leader, Landi, was visibly touched as he swept his eyes around his comrades. After taking out a sun cross pendant from his bosom, he silently offered a prayer.

“Venerable Radiant Knight. May your deceased soul bless all of your followers.”

…………

“Hahahaha…! Give way for your daddy! Don’t block his way!” As he saw the city gate being ferociously smashed apart, the 3rd troll brother’s mouth had turned askew from excitement.

His desire to kill that he held back for more than a hundred days was near a tipping point.

He could imagine crushing the bones of their corpses, appreciating the despair and fear these delicate worms would show in their faces… The third troll brother could feel every single cell in all parts of his body cheer in excitement.

With the 3rd troll brother as their leader, the troll foot soldiers were like a bunch of sea pirates that had come onshore. Each of them revealed bloodthirst and excitement as they rushed into the border city like a pack of locusts.

However, they soon enough stopped in their tracks.

As the faint moonlight spread out on the street, a large bone scythe, whose edge sunk deep into the ground, laid horizontally in the middle of the road. On its handle sat a silver-haired girl wearing a short gothic dress. While shaking her legs, she was resting her chin on her hands, calmly looking at the troll foot soldiers in front of her.

“Where did this prepubescent brat come from? If you’re smart, then you’d get out of the way for your daddy!” The third troll brother looked at the bone-chilling scythe that the girl sat on like a chair. Even an idiot could tell that the little girl wasn’t human. His elder brother actually instructed him not to provoke other demon races as much as possible.

“…It’s indeed a bother to deal with barbarians that came from the wilderness.” Bai Ji shook her head as she looked at the troll wielding a great ax in front of her.

“What did you say?! Hah! Wait till your granddaddy, me, knocks you into the ground! I will see if you would still dare to be impudent in front of your granddaddy again!”

Even before the girl talked, he was already unsatisfied with how her appearance alone interrupted his killing spree. Raising his broad axe, the third brother let out a snarl as magic began to surge forth his body like water. Stretching his hand outwards, he wanted to bring the girl in front of him down.

In an instant, when the troll’s stout arms extended towards the Bai Ji, the loli sitting on the handle had seemingly performed a conjuring trick; She turned into countless, tiny crimson bats that dispersed in all directions.

“?! A vampire?!” The third troll brother slightly froze. Before he could even react, he suddenly realized that his feet had already left the ground. When he regained his senses, he found that the tiny blood-colored bats had already gathered in his vicinity and were biting on his leather clothing. They had carried him straight into the air.

“Damn it! What sort of damnable bats are these? Can’t they be destroyed?!” His magic was virtually of no significance to those small bats. Instead, these tiny blood-colored bats that were biting onto himself were incessantly sucking up the magic in his body.

What the third troll brother didn’t expect was that these words of his actually caused the small bats around him to loosen their grip.

“Wahhh!!…” The third troll brother, who was free-falling in the air, began to howl in anguish.

Bai Ji, on the other hand, had flown to where the scythe was. With a ‘crack’ sound, she materialized once more and pulled out the massive scythe that was stuck onto the ground. While looking at the 3rd troll brother who was falling from the skies, she licked her lips and revealed an impish smile.

Moving the scythe, Bai Ji simply placed it on the location where the 3rd troll brother was about to land with the blade edge pointing upwards.

“Kacha!!” The anguished howls suddenly came to a stop. As if they had seen a ghost, fear and disbelief were written all over the troll foot soldiers’ expression.

In the span of a few seconds, their officer who had been roaring loudly and drumming up their morale had been shockingly suspended on the bone-chilling scythe. His flesh and blood were sucked dry and his remains resembled a piece of beef jerky on a skewer.

Bai Ji held the scythe and swung it, sending the withered troll corpse pierced on it flying far away. She slightly frowned as she shot a glance at the blood-covered blade edge.

“Hey, absorb them clean and properly. I don’t want to dirty my hair just because of some strange body fluid sticking on my hair clip~” Bai Ji warned as she lightly gave the scythe a kick.
