Chapter 27: Woof Woof~

‘Any intentions to raise a pet? Hell, I can’t even raise myself and now you want to make me take care of a bum? Excuse me?’

“Have you taken a close look at my attire? I’m the embodiment of a poor working-class person. Do you really think I’m capable of raising a pet? Those fortuitous things that pass their time in leisure?” Ji Bai tugged on the cloth of the cheap T-shirt he was wearing.

“Oh, so you’re actually worried about money issues? Don’t worry about it then, that shouldn’t be a problem anymore. Our superiors have already decided that they will give you an additional allowance every month as long as you accept her.” After he finished speaking, Lin Tuo patted his chest in a confident manner.

‘Allowance? What the heck? Don’t tell me that this group has a universal regulation of issuing pets to newcomers?’

“Don’t think about it too much. Do you really think that I want to assign this mission to you? I’ll have you know that the students were wrecking their brains out and tripping over each other trying to get this. If it wasn’t for some special circumstances, do you really think that such a good thing would fall on your head?” Lin Tuo said unhappily

‘Getting allowance just to casually raise a pet? How did such a ‘good’ thing fall onto me? A complete newbie that had just joined the order?’

“Why do I feel like I’m being singled out for some reason?” Ji Bai tilted his head.

“The top already decided that it could only be you. However, you can still reject this. If that’s the case, then we’ll just entrust this task to someone else or give you time to think it over.”

“Are there any benefits?”

“Just treat her well. You’ll eat whatever she eats.” Lin Tuo coldly said with his hands in his pockets.

“Alright! There’s no need for me to think it over. I’ll do it, stat!” Ji Bai arranged his slightly messy hair bangs. Upon thinking about it logically, he could simply casually raise a small dog or cat and take the funds for himself! This was a once in a blue moon opportunity! He could make a killing as long as he raised it!

“Hey. Those are your words, not mine.” Lin Tuo imperceptibly revealed a strange smile.

“Are the funds really enough?” Ji Bai silently crept towards him as he asked. He suddenly had a feeling that he had been scammed.

“As I said, it shouldn’t be a problem.”

“Oh, that’s fine then. I have no complaints.” Ji Bai slowly heaved a sigh of relief, however, the nagging feeling in his head that he had been deceived still remained.

“A nobleman’s word—”

“—is his bond. Yes, yes. I’ll be a dog if I go back on my words.” Ji Bai solemnly vowed as he replied.

‘Isn’t it just merely raising a cat or dog? How big of a deal could it be?’

Lin Tuo smiled. He clapped his hands and shouted towards a corner of the hall. “Did you hear that? He agreed! You can come out now!”

‘Hmm? Merely shouting can attract it? What cat or dog is so human-like?…’

Before Ji Bai could have the time to think it through again, a cute, petitely feminine silhouette dressed in gorgeous clothes suddenly walked out from the corner of the lobby in a shy manner. She had a short and standardized maid dress, the colors were alternated between black and white. It revealed the area near her chest and exposed her extremely alluring, yet faintly discernible ravine. Her skin was as white as a white-jade. Her long, cherry-colored hair was tied into two twin-tails that hung down like flowing water.  While her soft cat ears twitched, embarrassment could be seen throughout her small, red face.

“??? Ke… Ke-er? You, Why did you…” Ji Bai subconsciously covered his nose. He could feel a torrent of hot blood rushing from his heart towards his brain.

“Youwhy did you dress like… Did some lowlife piece of scum force you to do this?” Ji Bai narrowed his gaze and slowly turned his eyes towards Lin Tuo on the side.

“Hey! Hey! Don’t misunderstand this! The attire she’s wearing is something that Miss Ke-er herself volunteered to wear on her own! It has nothing to do with me, alright?” The expression in Ji Bai’s eyes was like a mighty dragon hiding within a deep pool; It was only tranquil on the surface, however, when it rages, its billows would overturn the seas and rivers. This caused Lin Tuo to feel an indescribable fear of locking eyes with him.

“Are you treating me like a three-year-old kid? Would such a small kid know the meaning behind her wearing that attire? The way I see it, there’s an 80% chance that someone was coaxing her to wear that outfit, don’t you think so?” Ji Bai’s sharp eyes landed on Lin Tuo’s chest like swords, this caused Lin Tuo to involuntarily retreat a few steps backward.

“We-Well… That… might actually be the case…”

“Master~ Thank you for taking in Ke’er. Nyaa~” The effeminate ‘Nyaa’ sound caused Ji Bai’s heart and mind to go soft. However, after he heard what Ke’er said, his pupils narrowed. He immediately thought of the promise that Lin Tuo wanted him to make earlier.

“Wait… Is the pet you’re referring to… It’s her?!” The glare in Ji Bai’s eyes was turning more and more dangerous. It frightened Lin Tuo to the point that he hurriedly ran to cower behind Ke’er.

“O-Of course? There aren’t many issues with that since she’s a small kitten, right? Besides, remember! You already agreed! You cannot renege on your words! Also, even if you do renege on your words, you can’t beat me up. This wasn’t my idea in the first place!”

“You tool…” Just when Ji Bai wanted to say something, he immediately saw Ke’er’s lustrous and pity-filled eyes.

“Master… Did Ke’er do something wrong… for you to dislike her so much? …”

“I…No, the thing is…” Ji Bai was speechless for a moment. There was no way he could possibly say that it was because he was worried that his identity would be exposed, right? Logically speaking, if he was to live with someone in the same house, it wouldn’t just be a matter of possibility, but rather, a matter of time he would be exposed. He had the bloodthirst disease, a disease that would relapse every few days and forcibly turn him into a vampire. Therefore, he wasn’t being overdramatic by trying to reject this cat-eared maid. He just couldn’t afford it.

“Can you stop being so insatiable, youngster? Do you know that because of this assignment, the whole organization has already degraded into a ball of chaos? These terms already benefit you a lot, can’t you stop putting on airs?” Lin Tuo, who was still hiding behind Ke’er, added.

“Besides, I can recall that a certain someone said that he was a dog if he reneges on his words.”

“Woof! Woof! Woof…!”
