Chapter 10: A new storm that had already appeared

“Esteemed knights! There isn’t a demon stashed in my store. Haven’t you conducted a search already? I beg you to show me some mercy and let my store go. I’m already getting on with age and only have a few belongings to my name. How do you expect me to live If I’m to lose all of it?” The owner blocked the entrance of his store and was adamantly refusing to leave while bitterly begging the four knights, he was hoping they’d show mercy. It looked as if he was about to kneel down.

“Exactly, I know Old Wang’s personality. He would never do such a thing even if he had ten times the gut.”

“Aren’t these knights too tough on him? The way they’re acting is extremely coarse as well.”

“How can demons even enter the city? Could these knights be using the excuse of searching for a demon to ransack his house in broad daylight?”

“The way this is going on is unbearable to watch…”

The voices from the surrounding onlookers entered the lead knight’s ears from every direction. The veins in his head popped out as he clenched his fist tightly to the point it was making cracking noises. He then gave a ferocious stare at the onlookers around him who were fanning the flames.

“We Knights are now enforcing the law here. All unauthorized people! Disperse now! Otherwise, everyone will be arrested for obstructing official duties and harboring criminals! For those who will refuse to leave, just wait and see; A lawyer letter will be addressed to each and every one of you! And you! Yes, you! Why are you taking pictures? Put your phone away! Or else, don’t blame me for being impolite!”

The timid onlookers immediately scattered after the short-haired knight roared this declaration. When faced with oppression from an authority figure, the only thoughts that everyone had were to protect and prevent themselves from getting caught in problems. After all, these were matters that were unrelated to them; they could just be put aside.

There was no lack of cowardice and apathy in this world; the only thing that was lacking was the valor to carry out righteousness.

“You old coot! Get out of the way! If you refuse, then don’t blame me for not respecting the elderly1!” The short-haired knight directed these malicious words towards the owner, his abhorring tone had revealed his impatience. He decided to finally reveal his true colors as things have already progressed to this point. The vile expressions were also present on the three knights beside him, they gradually drew closer towards the owner.

“I…”

“A new storm had already appeared! How could we be in a standstill?2…”Just when the situation entered a deadlock, a stirring, magnificently long and drawn-out transformation theme from a certain Tokusatsu-film began to play. The five people who were on the scene immediately fell into a state of silence.

“Sorry to interrupt the four of you, but did you all see a Golza fly above your head?” A low voice whose muffled voice seemed to suggest its owner was wearing a mask, sounded out in the area. The four knights had an ineffable expression on their faces as they turned their heads to look at the spot where the voice originated.

They could only see a figure whose legs were stepping on a wooden stool, the figure’s hands were holding onto his head like the sculpture of the ‘Thinker’, it was… Ultraman??

The four knights were stupefied at the beginning when they saw the person wearing the Ultraman costume. They could only stare at each other since they were completely unaware of which circus this goofy clown came from3. Even the boss of the noodle restaurant had an expression like he was looking at a moron.

“Who the heck are you! Did you walk into the wrong set? The Tokusatsu set isn’t here alright? So scram! Don’t obstruct our official knight’s business!” The pig-tailed knight, who was the first to react, began to berate the moronic ‘Ultraman’ in a loud voice while waving his hands like he was shooing away houseflies.

“…You! Did you see the Golza fly over your head?” Ultraman pretended he didn’t hear anything and didn’t respond to his provocation in the slightest. He placed his legs down from the stool and slowly brought his lightbulb-like eyes against that of the pig-tailed knight. For some reason, it indescribably gave the pig-tailed knight somewhat of a pressure.

“What the heck is a Golza? This place isn’t Japan, so how can such a thing appear?” The pig-tailed knight could only retort as he furrowed his brow.

“Hmm? You didn’t see it? …Hmmm, in that case, would you like to see it for yourself?”

“Eh? What are you…” Before the pig-tailed knight could even understand the meaning of that sentence, a fist that was accompanied by a strong gust of wind appeared and began to enlarge itself in his field of vision.

‘Bang!’ A crisp shatter resounded out. The body of the pig-tailed knight flew backward like a kite whose strings had snapped. He crashed into a billboard on the roadside.

“You! What have you done?! You dare to publicly attack a knight?! Are you aware of what this represents?” This sudden act that ‘Ultraman’ did had caused the remaining three knights to drop their jaws in bewilderment. It took a long time for them to regain their composure. In a burst of shock and anger, they successively looked at the ‘Ultraman’ ahead of them with hostility.

“Ah? I openly attacked a knight?” ‘Ultraman’ scratched his head puzzledly, his lightbulb-like eyes looked endearingly silly at the moment.

“I swear I didn’t! I clearly attacked a few local gangsters that were harassing and picking a quarrel with someone. The knights you’re referring to aren’t here at all.”

“You!!” The short-haired knight wasn’t just astonished that the Ultraman in front of him dared to lay his hands on a knight; What made him even more astonished was how he actually blew away the pig-tailed knight with one punch. How couldn’t the short-haired knight be aware of the pig-tailed knight’s strength? Was there ever a time where a random outcast could just show up and wantonly abuse him??

“Outcast! How dare you slander and humiliate us with your words! I will have your head today no matter what!” A lofty knight that had lost his cool stared at ‘Ultraman’ with anger, he then unsheathed the longsword that was on his waist. After channeling energy into his elbows, he pushed the sword tip towards ‘Ultraman’ with his two hands accompanied by quick steps.

Seeing the lofty knight behind him make his move, the short-haired knight lightly exhaled, he hadn’t even had the slightest bit of thought to stop him. One had to know that a knight had the right to kill a person in the middle of the street if they were insulted by the said person. How about a person who now carried the crime of deliberately hurting a knight? It was a no-brainer at this point.

Ability-wise, the lofty knight was an existence that had come out at the top of the probation knights’ combat test. Thus, the short-haired knight wasn’t afraid that any slip-ups might occur.

‘Swoosh…’ The sound of strong wind being carved into two sounded out as the sharp sword tip pierced through the air. In an instant, the sword tip was pushed towards the space between Ultraman’s eyebrow. If everything goes as expected, the head of this wretched outcast will split into two the next moment and his blood will color the area!

However, just when the sword blade was beginning to dig its way through, the lofty knight suddenly felt all of his strength being zapped away in an instant. It was almost as if his sword was stuck in a hill; he could neither move nor take it back.

  1. The original text was literally “respecting the elderly and loving the young”, but seeing that that’s more of a virtue than of anything. I decided to add that in.
  2. This is part of the lyrics from the Chinese theme song of Ultraman.
  3. The literal translation of this line was ‘Joker hired by the monkey’. It’s a play of the sentence “reinforcement sent by the monkey” from the journey to the west. Basically meaning that someone is very amusing. I kinda localized this line a bit.
